Monthly Report
Date: May 2012
· On going trail maintenance at Laurel Lake, Downs Farm,
Arshamomaque, Arshamomaque Pond, Dam Pond and Mill Road
Preserves.
· Installed steps on the wooden bridge at the end of Pipes Neck Road
leading to the Pipes Neck Beach Preserve.
· Met with Suffolk County Health Department in reference to our
yearly issues with coliform bacteria in the well at Tasker Park.
Michael Collins is following up with several options the SCHD
suggested.
· Weekly mowing and maintenance of the sports fields at School
House Park, East Marion, Tasker and Cochran Parks, Peconic
Lane Community Center, Laurel Lake Baseball fields and
Strawberry Fields Fairgrounds.
· Developing plans to mitigate the erosion issues at the end of 4tl~
Street, New Suffolk, with Jamie Richter and Michael Collins and
the Highway Department.
· The SCWA has completed the installation of a water main at the
Laurel Lake Preserve. Site restoration (seeding) of the disturbed
areas is has been postponed until the fall, due to the lateness of the
season for planting grass.
· New sidewalks (north & south side) and front entrance of the
Peconic Lane Community Center have been installed.
· Attended a meeting with the Land Preservation staff in reference to
work to be done as part of the acquisition of the Manor Grove
Preserve. Prepared a RFP for the demolition of the buildings,
house and shed, for review by the Land Preservation Committee.
· Attended a meeting with Bright Power in reference to the
installation of solar panels at the Southold Landfill.
· Repaired (almost weekly) the washing machines at the Southold
Animal Shelter.
· Met with Laura Klahre, Land Preservation Department, in
reference to the Trail Plan for the Sound View Dunes Park
(Bittner).
· Installed "No ATV" signs on the Pipes Neck Preserve (Carroll) as a
result of recent ATV activity on the property.
· Submitted an application to NYSDEC, Army Corps., NYSDOS and
the Southold Trustees for the maintenance dredging of Goldsmith
Inlet and received the NYSDEC Permit for the armoring at
Goldsmith Inlet.
· Closed/opened the ROW at the Cutchogue Parking Lot (Terp) for
24 hours as per our lease agreement.
· Attended a meeting with Supervisor Russell, Jeff Standish and Pete
Harris in reference to planning for a proposed beach clean up
program, in June.
· Attended a meeting with Phillip Beltz and Tanya Palmore, Director
of the North Fork Housing Alliance, in reference to the Community
Development funded Home Improvement Program.
· Assisted Musco Lighting in the re-lamping of the lights at Tasker
and Cochran Parks, as part of our service agreement.
· Attended a Department Head meeting in reference to the Kronos
Time Management System.
· Attended a meeting of the Southold Executive Safety Committee.
· Attended a meeting of the Southold Recreation Committee on a
request for additional sport playing fields for lacrosse and soccer,
by representatives from the leagues.
· Installed a new sign and power washed the Greenport Information
Booth.
· Installed a split rail fence at Town Beach to prevent vechicles from
driving on the beach, in the location of the swings.
· Attended a meeting with the Land Preservation Department in
reference to ongoing trail issues at the Laurel Lake, Dam Pond and
Sound View Dunes Preserves.
· Installed the temporary boat ramp at Town Beach for the season.
· Unloaded kitchen equipment at the Southold Recreation Center
that was donated by the Suffolk County Office of Aging and
installed a new sink for a HRC program at this facility.
· Preparing the restroom facilities, at Town beaches for opening in
June.
· Set up for the Relay for Life program at Cochran Park for June
2nd.
· Installed a new dishwasher at the Katinka House.
· Installed windscreens at Tasker and Cochran Park Tennis Courts
for the season.
· Repaired damaged walls at the Roller Hockey Rink.
· Repaired a leak in the circulator pump at Town Hall.
· Installed GFI switches at the Southold Collection Center.
· Graded and seeded the areas around the newly installed sidewalks
at the Peconic Lane Community Center.
· Installed a ceiling fan in the Assessors Office.
· Installed flags and banners along Main Street for Memorial Day.
· Repaired the roof on the salt buildings at the Highway Department.
· Start up of the AC units at Town Hall and repaired the AC unit in
the vault.
· Installed new boat cleats at the New Suffolk Boat Ramp.
· Assisted the Southold Trustees in installing mooring stakes at
Narrow River Road.
