(631) 298-4460 Fax (631) 298-4462 January 14, 2009 To: Town Board Fr: Phillip Beltz Re: 2008 Affordable Housing and Housing Advisory Commission Report Below please find a year-end report pertaining to affordable housing and activities and accomplishments of the Housing Advisory Commission for 2008: Cottaqes at Mattituck: · Units fully occupied by January 2008. · 19 of 22 households attend "post-closing information meeting" in March hosted by CDCLI and Town of $outhold. · Suffolk Times features one-year anniversary story. Housinq Advisory Commission: · In developing recommendations to stimulate an inventory of apartments in the Town, HAC reviewed existing legislation as well as that of other municipalities. Also they invited Martin Trent, SC Dept. Health Services, Mark Terry and Kevin Webster to speak at several meetings to provide further guidance. In addition, Town Attorney reviewed the document prior to SPC meeting with the Town Board. As directed, HAC met with Planning Board in October. · Reviewed/approved Permanent Fixed Improvement (PFI) request from Cottages' resident requesting the addition of a patio. Later modified PFI form. · Sponsored Long Island Housing Partnership community education forum to promote home ownership and avoid foreclosure. · Two new members joined the HAC, both to represent/complement persons receiving assistance of affordable housing. · Linda Goldsmith of Real Property Tax Council attended meeting to present ideas about affordable housing and specifically senior housing. Leqislative: · Set 2008 guidelines for income, sales price and apartment rentals. · Modified affordable housing legislation that included additional guidelines of income and assets for age-restricted housing recipients. · Modified existing housing registry application and developed new age-restricted housing registry application. Obiectives for 2009: · Meet with Riverhead's Assistant Town Attorney and Building Department Administrator to discuss their legislation as well as proposed amendments set for public hearing. · Amend document incorporating feedback received since July 2008. · Present modified document and ideas to the public via community focus groups to solicit feedback. · Incorporate feedback and further modify document. · Present findings to the Town Board.
