Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 Fax (631) 765-1823 Telephone (631) 765-1889 OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR TOWN OF SOUTHOLD Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes May 17, 2012 Present: John Stype, lan Wile, Rona Smith, Linton Duell, Amy Maguire-Burns, Councilman Bill Ruland, Supervisor Scott Russell and Phillip Beltz. Excused/Absent: Steve Latham, Anthony Cocheo, Donielle Cardinale and Carolyn Fahey. Local Development Corporations: Discussion of risks and benefits of creating one--its necessity in light of other resources. Suffolk County has an Industrial Development Agency along with programs like the Industrial Commercial Incentive Plans. Carolyn Fahey will be asked to discuss other available resources at the next EDC meeting. It is not clear how many jobs would be created as well as whether the creation of LDC could benefit additional organizations other than Peconic Landing. Foremost the Supervisor stated that Peconic Landing needs to submit their application to the Planning Board to ascertain if their proposed development is permissible. Business Liaison Position: Supervisor Russell reported that John Stype will be named as the Business Liaison--two resumes were submitted and one candidate could not provide a year- round commitment. John was congratulated; all believe he is an excellent candidate. Mattituck Aviation: Concern expressed regarding exodus of jobs from Teledyne Technologies at Mattituck Airbase. Possibly the County can meet with them to discuss alternative resources. Listeninq Tour: Phillip provided revised (final) EDC overview for distribution at upcoming meetings with the business community. Mattituck Chamber will meet on May 21st and the Southold Business Alliance and North Fork Promotion Council will meet soon. Other: Linton remarked that Sloan-Kettering is seeking to expand its operation in Commack and that Capital One site may be a consideration. Next Meetinq Date/Time: EDC will meet Thursday, May 31st at 2 p.m. at the Annex. Respectfully submitted, Phillip Beltz
