Supervisor's Requests
See New Business below.
Planning Board Requests
Comprehensive Town Plan - Agriculture Chapter Draft
Heather reported that the Agriculture Chapter Draft has been circulated for comment.
It was suggested that Jim Baker's memo of June 2008 - "Farm Stand Ordinance
Transportation Element" be reviewed and submitted as the Commission's comments on the
Agriculture Chapter Draft.
The discussion then moved to a review of the continuing traffic safety issues related to
farm stands and vineyards. In that regard, the situation at the Harbes farm stand on Route 48
remains under review.
Traffic safety, noise and sanitary conditions at the Vineyard 48 venue in Cutchogue have
been continuing concerns of local residents. Councilman Talbot has advised that the Town
Board will review the issue. It was suggested that relevant noise controls be examined and that
the site plan also be reviewed.
Accordingly, Jim Baker will resend his memo to the Commissioners for their review and
comment. After the Commission's comments on that memo have been completed, Neb will
write to the Planning Board with a copy of the updated memo and with copies to the Town
Board.
Orientation / Interpretive Signage Project - Special Meeting
Neb advised that a special meeting on the signage project occurred on March 21st. The
attendees reviewed each proposed triangular sign and reached a consensus on the 50 photos
for inclusion in the project.
It was also reported that the NYSDOT has extended the project completion date to October 31,
2014. Moreover, a request for an additional $90,000 in funding to the project will be submitted.
Current Transportation Issues
Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters
Neb reported that the SCDPW has advised that requests for bids for one shelter each for
Greenport and Southold hamlet will be published by the end of May 2012.
Regulation of Vans & Limos
Councilman Talbot provided the Commission with copies of Chapter 99 of the Town of
Riverhead's Code - Taxicabs and Vehicles for Hire. That document will be reviewed for
comment and it was suggested that Jim Baker's farm stand memo should be included in the
Commission's consideration of any recommendations to the Town Board.
