Monthly Report
Date: April 2012
· On going trail maintenance at Laurel Lake, Downs Farm,
Arshamomaque, Arshamomaque Pond, Dam Pond and Mill Road
Preserves.
· Removed "posted" signs that were placed on the Downs Farm
Preserve. These signs were 300' inside of the boundary lines of the
preserve.
· Repaired beach access stairs, due to winter storm damage, at
Rocky Point Road, East Marion and 67 Steps, Greenport.
· Completed the spring clean up at Town Hall and installed a new
hand railing outside of the Meeting Hall.
· Cleaned the debris along the roadways adjoining Town Preserves.
· Started the weekly mowing of the sports fields at School House
Park, East Marion, Tasker and Cochran Parks, Peconic Lane
Community Center, Laurel Lake Baseball fields and Strawberry
Fields Fairgrounds.
· Developing plans to mitigate the erosion issues at the end of 4tl~
Street, New Suffolk, with Jamie Richter and the Highway
Department.
· The SCWA has completed the installation of a water main at the
Laurel Lake Preserve. Site restoration (seeding) of the disturbed
areas is scheduled for May.
· Attended a meeting with Fuel Master in reference to the Fuel
Management System and fuel tanks at the Highway Department.
· Suffolk Security System completed the installation of new panel for
the alarm system at Town Hall.
· Removed the sidewalks (north side) and front entrance of the
Peconic Lane Community Center, in preparation for a new
handicapped ramp and front entrance being constructed the first
week in May. A new handicapped walkway will be installed on the
south entrance as soon as the work on the north entrance is
completed.
· Cochran Park: Fertilized the infields, laid sod, repaired the
irrigation system, rebuilt the pitchers mound and rolled the fields.
· LIPA completed the wire removal on the Sound View Dunes
(Bittner) property.
· Police Department: Repaired the door and sink and installed new
handrails, at the entrance of the facility.
· Attended a meeting with the Land Preservation staff in reference to
work to be done as part of the acquisition of the Manor Grove
Preserve. Prepared a RFP for the demolition of the buildings,
house and shed, for review by the Land Preservation Committee.
· Renovations to the 4th room at the Peconic Lane Community
Center are complete. The stage has been repaired, sanded, stained
and polyurethane applied. The carpet has been installed and the
molding and paneling stained.
· Tim Abrams is working with NY Fire Company and Lighthouse
Security on the ongoing issues alarm system at the Southold Animal
Shelter. Jamie Richter is also meeting with the Town Attorney
concerning the above.
· DPW removed debris on Cox Neck Road, Mattituck, as part of an
eviction by the Suffolk County Sheriffs Department.
· DPW removed a small shed, cottage, old car and miscellaneous
debris, as part of an unsafe building violation (Jacobs), on Route
48, Mattituclc
· DWP staff (5) completed inside repairs (sheetrock, spackle and
paint) to the Fishers Island Police Barracks.
· Repainted and reinstalled the sign for the Strawberry Fields
Fairgrounds.
· Repaired (almost weekly) the washing machines at the Southold
Animal Shelter.
· Met with Laura Klahre, Land Preservation Department, in
reference to the Trail Plan for the Sound View Dunes Park
(Bittner).
· Modified a drainage catch basin for the Budds Pond Drainage
Project.
· Inventoried the 10 concrete Town boat ramp, for winter storm
damage, and repaired the ramps, as needed.
· Human Resource Center: Installed awnings, dishwasher
backsplash and installed new fire doors, as part of the NYS grant.
