April 23, 2012
YB Present: Anne Davey, Megan Demarest, Crissy Witzke, Andrea Nydegger, Robert Duffin,
deft Standish, Officer Bill Brewer, Karen McLaughlin, Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz.
Aisc Present: Laura dens-Smith, North Fork Alliance Absent: Jacob Branker, Irene Tsontakis-
Bradley, Elaine White, dillian Ruroede, Tom Rabbitt and Danielle Maisano.
Welcome NewYouth Bureau Board Member: CrissyWitzke was welcomed, two additional
board members were selected to serve on the Youth Bureau Board (Dan Durett and Costa
Kokkinos).
Approval of Minutes of March 12, 2012
Youth Advisory Council Update: Anne and Megan reported of preparation and serving of meal
for the homeless at Mattituck Presbyterian Church.
Further Development of Goals/Objectives for 2012:
· Hosting Fishers Island Students: Phillip reported that students will not be able to come
to the mainland this spring,
· Formalize Community Service Component: Phillip distributed sample letter that he
wrote from Supervisor inviting organizations to participate in "Humanity in Action, Town of
Southold Community Service Day." Andrea suggested hosting the initiative in September
when schools begin rather than implement in late Spring. In addition to inviting schools,
non-profits, places of worship also invite hospitals, East End Hospice, Girl Scouts, Boy
Scouts, Rotaries, Lions, etc.
· Create activities to serve middle school students: Scheduled for Friday, June 1 st from
6 to $ p.m. at Peconic Lane Community Center. YAC selected "Pajama dam" as the title--
will feature hot dogs, refreshments and popcorn. YB endorsed the purchase of popcorn
maker to be split with the Human Resource Ctr. Other activities: dodge, relays, videos,
Xbox, music, etc. deffwill invite Osprey players.
· Explore Developing Youth Court: Phillip attend Riverhead's court with Chief Flatley,
both were very impressed. Will need commitment from two attorneys to facilitate court
proceedings. Possible implementation in 2013.
· Sponsor Osprey's Night: Saturday, June 8th' Will need someone to sing National
Anthem.
· Environmental Initiatives: The Transfer Station has suggested YAC work on
landscaping and recycling initiative to be further developed with YAC. Scheduled for
Sunday, May 20 h at 10:00 a.m.
Mattituck Town Hall Meeting: Laura dens Smith discussed upcoming presentation and panel.
Suffolk County Youth Bureau: Phillip reported that the County has hired Reverend Roderick
Pearson as its new Youth Bureau director.
Distribution Upcoming Events:
· Girls Scout of SC, Riverhead Community Coalition, Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Next Meeting Date: May 21st at 5:00 p.m.-- Human Resource Ctr.
