e. The work covered by this application may not be commenced before issuance of Building Permit.

Re: McEIroy Deck
Building/Zoning Official,
The existing timber deck on the McEIroy residence in East Marion was recently updated
to meet current building codes with regard to connections and strapping requirements.
According to the property owners, the deck was constructed over 20 years ago and has
been in place since.
A recent inspection has shown that the post are connected to 12" diameter, 2'6" deep
concrete piers. These piers do not have the minimum depth of bury as required by
code. The deck has shown no signs of vertical movement (either settling or heaving).
This observation, coupled with the relatively light structure of the deck would allow you
to conclude that the existing depth of bury is adequate to meet the structural needs of
the deck.
