Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 Fax (516) 765-1823 Telephone (516) 765-1800 LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING TUESDAY, JULY 20, 1999 MINUTES Present were: Dick Ryan, Joe Krukowski, Fred Lee, Jim Pim, Reed Jarvis, Ray Huntington, Melissa Spire and Marion Summer Before the meeting, the Town Board presented the members of the committee with a letter of recognition for their work on the committee. Noreen McKenna was unable to attend this presentation. New Business - there were no new applications received this month. Dick had been contacted by the owner of Polly-O cheese, Joseph Pollio. His property is 19.1 acres, located on the northside of C.R. 48 west of Mill Lane. He doesn't want to see the land developed. An application packet has been sent to him. Old Business- Scott application - Hoot Sherman from the Peconic Land Trust met with Mrs. Scott. She is still thinking about it. She said she is very busy right now. Hoot will contact her again in about a month. Sider application - John Sider has put up a for sale sign. Reed said he he is still interested and wants to do the right thing. He is keeping his options open. Once we have a map with a little definition, we will be able to get an appraisal. DiBartolo application - the committee reviewed this application. This property is mostly wetlands. Dick will write to Mr. DiBartolo and tell him that the committee is not interested in his property. Schreiber application - Marion gave a copy of his map to the committee to review. This property is next to the Little Bear property. We will be getting an appraisal on this. -2- Ernst application - an appraisal is being done on this by Patrick Given. Should be received sometime next month. Conway application - appraisal also due by next month. Morton - was Van Nostrand property in Orient. Marion said the County is interested in a partnership with the Town (County 70% - Town 30%). Dick said we need more information, as we do not know what the partnership with the County means. Marion will get this information from the County. Other Business Agricultural Protection Strategy - the committee met with Valerie Scopaz prior to the beginning of tonight's meeting to discuss this. Cherepowich - The Peconic Land Trust met with him last month. The County offered them $14,000.00 per acre. Ginsberg - Peconic Land Trust has a contract on this property. It is next to Fort Corchaug. Marion Summer showed the committee a map of the property that has been gifted to the Town. It is across from Downs Preserve. Melissa and Dick are taking the Apple Tour II. Dick will be going to Fishers Island and has arranged to meet with the Burr brothers to discuss conservation easements. Dick told the committee members that they were welcome to go to the Fishers Island Town Board Meeting with him. Dick will be working on the grant application for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. The next meeting for the Land Preservation Committee is scheduled for Monday, August 16, 1999.
