I have no objections to this event taking place, even though its Memorial Day weekend and we are busy with the Tall Ship event, they have been advised that we cannot commit any resources to their event because of manpower restrictions. March 6, 2012 Dear Memorial 100 Supporter: 2012 $outho d Town Clerk In 2010, three Marines from 3/25 who served in Iraq together started the Memorial 100 run to honor the 48 brothers lost during their deployment in 2005. Rather than following through with the original plan for one person to run 100 miles, the founders turned the event into a relay. Service members from every branch, veterans and their families will run 5-10 mile legs in teams of two carrying a U.S. flag and a Hope For The Warriors® flag. Hope For The Warriors® mission statement: The mission of Hope For The Warriors® is to enhance quality of life for U.S, service members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® actively seeks to ensure that the sacrifices of wounded and fallen warriors and their families are never forgotten nor their needs unmet. Running to Remember Team mission statement: This event was organized to "interrupt" Memorial Day Weekend holiday plans and remind everyone of the day's purpose -to honor and remember the wounded and the fallen. We will honor the fallen through our actions on May 26-27 beginning at the Orient Point Ferry Dock in Orient Point, Long Island, New York end at Ground Zero, NYC NY for the third running of the Memorial Day 100. We are requesting your support if the run will impact your county. The support we are requesting is a police escorts in front of our convoy for the safety of our runners and the community. There will be a total of 30-35 participants in support of this operation, On the road at one time will be two runners, holding the U.S. Flag and Hope For The Warriors® Flag. In support behind the runners will trail one ambulance and two passenger vans that will allow us to interchange participants as well as maintain safety in case of an emergency. This will be a 24 hour event beginning at 0900am on May 26. The counties involved are Suffolk and Nassau as well as NYC. i,.Jidqig MBt.
