OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR
TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes
March 22, 2012
Present: John Stype, Rona Smith, Anthony Cocheo, Steve Latham, Carolyn Fahey, Donielle
Cardinale, Linton Duell, Supervisor Scott Russell, Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz.
Excused: lan Wile and Amy Maguire-Burns.
Capital One Buildinq Site Plan: Review of covenants and restrictions imposed in 1984 that
limits development of retail, food and beverage, etc. Supervisor noted that it is important to
consider that covenants can be extinguished. Donielle will confirm if realtor, Lee Brodski, can
attend the next meeting or EDC is willing to meet him whenever he is available. EDC believes
that best way to market property would be to issue Request for Qualifications or Request for
Ideas that could be sent to a broad sector to stimulate interest (realtors, site selectors, etc.)
Discussion of Business Liaison Position: EDC accepts the latest draft, will discuss with
Town Board at future discussion.
Survey: Request for lan to add on one additional question (would you like to speak/meet with a
member of EDC?) Tony said many of SBA members will not complete survey online and it will
be made available with paper copy and Sandi of Supervisor's office will enter responses.
Planninq of Listeninq Tour: Clarification of purpose, process, etc. EDC wants to highlight/
emphasize that their role is to assist businesses to prosper--survey will be formidable tool to
engage businesses and ascertain what issues are important that need EDC or others in
providing assistance. In reaching out to the community, EDC will first meet with Town Board
(April 10th) to demonstrate what it has accomplished to date (mission statement, survey, etc.)
and what it hopes to achieve in the near future (upcoming meetings with businesses, etc.)
After meeting with Town Board, EDC will meet with Chambers of Commerce, Southold
Business Alliance and any other local community group to advise them of their efforts and seek
support in launching survey to acquire information to assist businesses with workshops in the
future. Carolyn requested that EDC send her list of community meetings, dates, times, place of
meetings, etc. (rotaries, etc.) and she will compile list so EDC can select what meetings they will
attend.
Website Paqe: Phillip will speak with lan regarding EDC content for the Town's newwebsite.
Carolyn will provide link to County and area resources.
Next Meetinq Date and Time and Meetinq with Town Board: EDC will meet Thursday, April
5th at 2 p.m. at the Annex--meet with Town Board on Tuesday, April 10th at 9:00 a.m. at Town
Hall meeting room.
Respectfully submitted,
Phillip Beltz
