Absent: Anne Davey, Danielle Maisano, Louise Hug, Irene Tsontakis Bradley, Tom Rabbitt, Robert Duffin and Harold Pleitez. Approval of Minutes of January 23, 2012 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Report: Megan reported of January meeting and upcoming activities such as planning of St. John's Place feeding the homeless, etc. John Halligan's Ryan's Story: Everyone who attended the presentation found it compelling and instructive and worthy of Youth Bureau financial support. Further Development of Goals/Objectives for 2012: · Hosting Fishers Island Students: Suggestion to find out how many students would be interested in attending and possibly YAC could sponsor a student from Fishers Island who could shadow them at their schools for the day. · Formalize Community Service Component with Schools: YB could sponsor a meeting to involve organizations seeking volunteers, letter to superintendents, etc. · Create activities to serve middle school students: Host Friday night, 6-9 p.m. at Recreation and Community Centers--music, videos, games. Need 3 chaperones and 15 high school mentors to assist. · Explore Developing Youth Court: Phillip is awaiting call from Riverhead to arrange a tour of their site. He will also speak with Justice Price of Southold to assess Town's interest in becoming involved. Request of Communities that Care: Susan Toman requested someone from the Youth Bureau attend their upcoming prevention and resources conference on March 14th. Board agreed to send representatives (Jeff and Phillip) but did not agree with providing financial support to the event as the Town is providing the venue for the event at no cost. Osprey's Night: Jeff suggested that the Opsrey's sponsor a "Youth Bureau night" in early June with popcorn, sodas, entertainment, etc.. Board unanimously agreed and date set for Saturday, June 8th, details to follow. Other: Phillip noted that with declining funds available for "prevention" that the Town should think strategically about pooling its youth funding resources, currently Town receives funding towards Family Service League, DARE and Youth Bureau. Karen thought this will be a recommendation of the Human Service Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan. Next Meeting Date: March 12th at 5:00 p.m. at the Human Resource Ctr.
