Monthly Report: January 2012
LIFEGUARD TRAINING PROGRAM: An American Red Cross Lifeguard
Training Program began on Saturday, January 21. This is a joint program with the
Riverhead Recreation Department in an ongoing effort to ensure both towns with
qualified lifeguards to staff our beaches in the summer months. Program is held at
the Brookhaven Lab pool and the Henry Pfeifer Community Center in Calverton.
SPRING 2012 BROCHURE: is in the process of being finalized and will be an
insert in the March 10th edition of The Suffolk Times. Following is a tentative listing
of programs and activities offered for the spring 2012 season.

PARKS~ BEACHES~ & RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING: was held
on Tuesday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. Numerous topics were discussed including:
memorial for local fire fighters; local ball field use; shared use of fields with school
districts; Peconic Lane Community Center renovations; Strawberry Festival; beach
improvements; roller skating rink; the dog park, Laurel Lake; and other varied
topics.
