Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 Fax (631) 765-1823 Telephone (631) 765-1889 OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR TOWN OF SOUTHOLD Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes February 09, 2012 Present: Amy Maguire-Burns, Donielle Cardinale, Linton Duell, Steve Latham, Anthony Cocheo, Supervisor Scott Russell, Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz. Also present: Mark Terry, Planning and Ken Schneider, Zoning Board of Appeals. Excused: John Stype, Rona Smith, lan Wile and Carolyn Fahey. Adopted proposed Mission Statement: The following was adopted: The Economic Development Committee will facilitate the successful economic growth and revitalization of existing businesses while attracting new commerce and cultural opportunities that complement the true spirit and character of the community, resulting in long-term employment possibilities and a diversified economic base thatwill further benefit the quality of life enjoyed by all who live and visit the Town. Developin,cl Short and Lonq Term Goals and Objectives: All in agreement with proposed objectives as outlined in minutes from last meeting. Capital One Buildinq Site Plan: Supervisor noted that covenants and restrictions associated with the property can be extinguished. He also noted, along with Councilman Ruland that the message should be clear that the Town will proactively support the redevelopment of site in order to provide meaningful employment opportunities. The following ideas were suggested for vacated building: · Suggested industries: medical, financial/investment, technology, legal, assisted living facility, mixed use · Questions for Carolyn Fahey: How will Suffolk County market this potential employment base, viability to issue open-door RFP, can Long Island Economic Development Council assist? Discussion of Liaison/Ombudsperson Position: The term "ombudsperson" is inappropriate so position will be named "liaison." There were questions whether position will be "paid", how much authority it has, etc. Most likely the position will be voluntary and appointed by the Town Board and report to the Town Board to document issues and concerns of individuals trying to develop businesses. Everyone should email a briefjob description to Phillip prior to next meeting to detail what you envision the position will/should do...bullet form is preferred. This will be further discussed at the next meeting. Questionnaire for Listeninq Tour: lan has developed a draft and he will work with Amy and Phillip to prepare a further draft for review prior to the next meeting.
