Box 1179 Southold, New Yo~k 11971 Fax (516) 765-1823 Telephone (516) 765-1801 LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE TOWN OF SOUTHOLD LAND PRESERVATION MEETING MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1998 MINUTES Present were: Dick Ryan, Joe Krukowski, Noreen McKenna, Fred Lee, Jim Pim, Brian Murphy, Greg Yakaboski, Melissa Spiro & Tim Caufield Dick introduced Melissa Spiro and Greg Yakaboski to the members of the committee. Greg thanked Dick for the list of outstanding projects, which he felt would be helpful to him. Greg discussed some of these projects with the committee. The committee studied maps that Melissa and Dick had worked on which shows what properties have the development rights sold and which ones are still available. Raphael property - Melissa said the q corners of the building are staked out for the winery. It will be interesting to see what happens. Blum property - the closing of the this property will probably be done in a more public way, perhaps at a Town Board meeting, so that the tax- payers are aware of where the money is going. State grants - ($165,000) - a, parcels are on the state list, they are: Young, Woodhull, Gatz and Pugliese. Also there is $337,500 allocated for 1998, which will be Ruland, Ackermann, Van Nostrand, Blum and Raphael. Before June 1, 1998 a list has to be made up for the State for matching funds. The committee discussed the Lappe property again. Fred Lee will speak to Mr. Lappe and see if another appraisal Would be in order. -2- Dick asked the committee to think about lands that would be good for farmaldn preservation. The Peconic Land Trust has been assisting the Town with land preservation and will be working site by site with Dick and this committee. The committee received an application from Joseph Cherepowich in East Marion. Tim Caufield is meeting with him and will report back to the committee. The committee discussed the Janet Fitzgerald appraisal on Fishers Island and it is being tabled until next meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 18, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 10 p.m. R~oect fully submitted ~)yce M. Wilkins Secretary
