NY 10018 212.695.2988 March 19, 2009 Pat Conklin Town of Southold Building Department 53095 Main Road Southold, NY, 11971 Dear Pat, Enclosed is documentation for the Lawrence house renovation project at Fishers Island that you are currently reviewing. We have completed a "res-check" for the house. All of the specifications from the insulation company and for the new triangle tube high efficiency boiler that we will be using are attached as well. The replacement windows will be Low E and argon filled as well. I am really pleased that we will be 18% above current ener~ code requirements. The review is for the entire house, and it includes the "sunroom". The windows there will be Iow E argon gas filled as well. We are also putting in a new crawlspace exterior wall that is highly insulated. An enclosed drawing addresses the rain water retention system we will employ. There will be 5 drywells located around the house. The calculations and specifications are on the drawing. Also attached is a drawing showing the strapping system that will be used for the new window installation. Finally, for the "sunroom, where we are rebuilding that glass wall, we will be using an approved hurricane protection shutter system. The specification for that system is enclosed as well. I think these items address all the issues you brought up with me the other day on the phone. If there are any other issues, please give me a call. Thanks for your help with this review. Most hangers designed for metal p~pe are suitable for BlazeMaster pipe. Do not use undersized hangers. Hangers with sufficient load bearing surface shall be selected based on pipe size, ie., 1-1/2" hangers for 1-1/2" pipe. The hanger shall not have rough or sharp edges which come in contact with the pipe. The pipe hangers must comply with the requirements in NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D. For Quick Response upright sprinklers, rigid hangers secured to the ceiling shall be used. For installation of exposed BlazeMaster CPVC, listed support devices for thermoplastic sprinkler piping or other listed support devices shall be used which mount the piping directly to the ceiling or sidewall. When a sprinkler head activates, a significant reactive force can be exerted on the pipe. With a pendent head, this reactive force can cause the pipe to lift vertically if it is not properly secured, especially if the sprinkler drop is from small diameter pipe. The closest hanger shall brace the pipe against vertical lift-up. Since BlazeMaster CPVC is more ductile than metallic sprinkler pipe, it has a greater capacity to withstand earthquake damage. In areas subject to earthquakes, BlazeMasler fire sprinkler systems shall be designed and braced in accordance with local codes or NFPA 13. Transition to Other Materials BlazeMaster male and female threaded adapters or flanges are Listed for connecting a BlazeMaster system to other materials, valves, and appurtenances. A special reinforced female threaded adaptor is available for connection to the sprinkler head. A thread sealant shall be used in making threaded connections. TFE (Teflon®) thread tape is a recommended seal- ant. Other acceptable sealants are those that meet the standards of the FGG/BM® System Compatible Program. These are shown at www.blazemaster.com Some thread sealants other ,Loo./ \M / / 9911 Brecksville Rd. Cleveland, OH 44141-3201 than those mentioned previously contain solvents or other materials that may be damaging to CPVC. Always consult with the manufacturer of the material for com- patibility with BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings. Care shall be exercised when transitioning between BlazeMaster pipe and fittings and metal Care must be taken to avoid over-torquing. Generally, 2 turns beyond finger tight is all that is required to make up a threaded connection (approximate torque should be 10-25 ft. pounds). Grooved Coupling Adapters CPVC Grooved Coupling Adapters were designed usin9 the Victaulic style 75 flexible couplin9 Other UL Listed couplings of similar design may be used. Mosl hangers designed for metal pipe are suitable for BlazeMaster pipe. Do not use undersized hangers. Hangers with sufficienl load bearing surface shall be selected based on pipe size, i.e., 1-1/2" hangers for 1-1/2" pipe The hanger shall not have rough or sharp edges which come in contact with the pipe. The pipe hangers must comply with the requirements in NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D, For Quick Response upright sprinklers, rigid hangers secured to lhe ceiling shall be used. For installation of exposed BlazeMaster CPVC, listed support devices for thermoplastic sprinkler piping or other listed support devices shall be used which mount the piping directly to the ceiling or sidewall, When a sprinkler head activates, a significant reactive force can be exerted on the pipe. With a pendent head, this reactive force can cause the pipe to lill vertically it it is not properly secured, especially if the sprinkler drop is from small diameter pipe. The closest hanger shall brace lhe pipe against vertical lift-up. Since BlazeMaster CPVC is more ductile than metallic sprinkler pipe, it has a greater capacity to withstand earthquake damage In areas subject to earthquakes, BlazeMasler fire sprinkler systems shall be designed and braced in accordance with local codes or NFPA 13. Transition to Other Materials BlazeMaster male and female threaded adapters or flanges are Listed for connecting a BlazeMaster system to other materials, valves, and appurtenances. A special reinforced female threaded adaptor is available for connection 1o the sprinkler head. A thread sealant shall be used in making threaded connections. TFE (Teflon®) thread tape is a recommended seal- ant. Other acceptable sealants are those that meet the standards of the FGG/BM® System Compatible Program. These are shown at www.blazemaster.com. Some thread sealants other 9911 Brecksvi]le Rd. Cleveland, OH 44141-3201 web site: e-mail: than those mentioned previously contain solvents or other materials that may be damaging to CPVC. Always consult with the maoufacturer of the material for corn- patibility with BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings.
