HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/28/2011Southold Transportation Commission Southold Town Hall November 28, 2011 Meeting Called to Order 10:05 AM by Chairman Neb Brashich. Members Present: Councilman Chris Talbot, Chief Martin Flatley, Margaret Brown, Town Engineer Jamie Richter, Highway Superintendent Pete Harris and Tom Fox. Members Absent: Planning Director Heather Lanza, Jim Baker, Greenport Rep Bob Feger and Frank Field. Minutes of October 24, 20'1'1 A motion to approve the minutes was made by Chief Flatley, seconded by Margaret Brown and was carried. Town Board Updates Nassau Point Road - Stop Signs Neb reported that, as there was no substantial community support, the Town Board voted against the placement of Stop signs at Vanston Road. That action by the Town Board had been previously recommended by the Commission. Mill Road, Peconic - No Parkinq Issues The Town Board maintained its earlier ruling that parking would be prohibited on that road - from the beach to Route 48. Harbes FamilyWinery, Mattituck With respect to traffic control issues, private security may assist with parking issues without attempting to control traffic on Route 48. The Planning Board retains the right of final site plan approval. Route 48 Vineyard - Peconic Parking issues and disorderly persons at that venue are of concern. Particularly, limos and vans have been found to be parking on the adjacent Depot Lane. The Town of Southold and the State Liquor Authority are addressing the problem. Satur Farms, Alvah's Lane - Cutchoque No Parking signs have been installed at that location. It is also understood that some the Satur's operations may be moved to Calverton. East End Transportation Council Neb reported that the Council's scheduled meeting had been cancelled. The Council will meet with the East End Supervisors & Mayors Association in early 2012 concerning the review and implementation of the SEEDS recommendations. The Council will also meet with each of the local town boards for updates on that issue. NYMTC has indicated that it is still seeking substantive input from East End governments concerning transportation issues. Supervisor's Requests None. Planning Board Requests None. Current Transportation Issues Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters The SCDPW will develop Requests for Proposals for the placement of two shelters. Neb will ask Jamie Richter to follow up with SCDPW concerning the placement of the Southold shelter (understood to be on Route 25 in way of the library). Orientation / Interpretive Si.qnage Proiect The RBA Group will contact the Southold Historical Society concerning the placement of and access to the signage on SHS's property. Parking Restriction - Villaqe Lane & King Street - Orient A public hearing concerning that issue will be held in the spring of 2012. Streetlight Placement - Birch Drive - Laurel The Commission recommended that a request by a local resident for a streetlight placement be denied. Jamie Richter advised that, as access to Peconic Bay Boulevard at that intersection is well lighted, that residents should consider the placement of a motion sensor light in way of the rear of his property. Streetlight Placement - Shipyard Lane - East Marion The Cleaves Point Condo Owners Association contacted Chief Flatley requesting the placement of a streetlight at the end of Shipyard Lane. Referring to the stripping of scrap metal at the adjacent abandoned industrial site, as well as loitering by kids, the Chief responded that he would institute extra patrols and would recommend the placement of a streetlight there. The Commission agreed with his recommendation and will forward it to the Town Board for its consideration. Prohibiting U-Turns on Love Lane, North of Pike Street - Mattituck Chief Flatley advised that the Police Department will conduct a traffic survey at that location, in way of the municipal parking lot. If necessary, appropriate signage will be recommended. A memo will be sent to the Town Board concerning the results of the study. Old Business None. New Business Regulation of Vans & Limos That issue will require further study. Next Meeting January 30, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Town Hall.
