ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE
June 1, 2000, 4:00 P.M.
The ARC met at Town Hall. Members present were:
Robert I. Brown. Co-Chairman
Garrett A. Strana. Co-Chairman
Sanford Hanauer, Mattituck
Robert Keith. Mattituck. Secretary_
Howard Meineke, Cutchogue
Yan Reiger, Orient
Moved by Howard Meineke and seconded by Yan Rieger, it was RESOLVED to
APPROVE the MINUTES of the meeting of May 25, 2000.
ROBINS ISLAND PRIVATE FERRY TERMINAL (New Suffolk)
The Committee reviewed a revised south elevation showing a canopy
extending over all of the doors and examined an external lighting fixture. It was
RESOLVED to recommend APPROVAL of the plan with CONDITIONS that roof
vents be copper and that the exhaust from any direct vent boiler be concealed.
The applicant is asked to incorporate the design change in the June 1 fax into
the May 17 drawing and add or append a list of materials so that the Committee
may add its stamp.
MARTHA CLARE VINEYARDS (2595 Sound Avenue at Bergen Avenue
-Mattituck)
Taking into account the statutory requirement to eliminate visual
dissimilarity with other structures within 500 feet, it was RESOLVED by Sanford
Hanauer and seconded by Howard Meineke to DISAPPROVE the application.
The Board is asked to note that the design and scale ware acceptable but
not the stucco. An alternative would be to move the structure further back from
Sound Avenue so as to have vines in the front. Although not in its purview, the
Committee believes that traffic flow will be improved with the entrance and exit
on Bergen Avenue.
The Committee would prefer to have been involved in the preliminary
discussions of the application.
LAUREL LINKS (PRELIMINARY) Main Road, Mattituck (Robert Brown recused
himself).
It was RESOLVED by Howard Meineke and seconded by Sanford
Hanauer to offer the following RECOMMENDATIONS to the Planning Board.
Club House. A drawing of a decorative railing above the kitchen is
requested to assure that it will screen the mechanicals housed or vented there.
The trash location and screening need to be specified; roof penetrations should
be copper. The Planning Board is asked to consider if the parking area and its
lighting are screened from the Main Road.
Pool House. Roof penetrations should be copper and the exhaust from
any direct vent boiler be concealed.
Cart Barn. The elevations, especially the West, should be more akin to
the Club House, for example, deleting the arch tops on the barn doors and the
use of shed dormers rather than gambrel. A sample of the roof color is
requested with the thought that brown may be better than some shades of
green.
Maintenance Barn. Same comments as the Cart Barn and consider
screen planting to the north for the benefit of the residence across the Long
Island tracks.
Half Way House. Copper roof penetrations and screened trash site.
The Committee would like to review illustrations of the proposed external lighting
fixtures for all the buildings and other uses. In the final submission we ask that a
list of materials be provided on the drawing or an annexed schedule.
