Robert I. Brown, Co-Chairman
Theodore Carpluk, Southold
Yan Rieger, Orient
Sanford Hanauer, Mattituck
Robert Keith, Mattituck, Secretary
Also attending was Robert G. Kassner of the Planning Board Staff.
Moved by Theodore Carpluk and seconded by Garrett Strang, it was
RESOLVED to APPROVE the MINUTES of the meeting of April 5, 2001.
Vote of the Committee: Ayes All.
PENNY LUMBER (Main Road - Greenport)
Moved by Yan Rieger and seconded by Sanford Hanauer, it was RESOLVED to
TABLE the application as incomplete awaiting the several items on the ARC
checklist and the identification of a design professional. The committee made the
preliminary comment that the roof pitch should be a minimum of 4 in 12 to make
the structure appear more like a barn in character.
The Committee offered to the Planning Board the thoughts that a dense,
high evergreen buffer would provide screening from Kerwin Boulevard and that,
since the porosity of the soil is unknown, the adequacy of the swale for drainage
appears to be in question. It may also have an effect on the appearance of the
structure
Vote of the Committee: Ayes All.
1670 HOUSE (North Road - Southold) Pre-submission discussion)
Garrett Strang described a 2400 square foot addition to the east of the present
building which follows its cedar shingle roof and siding and is of the same design.
The Committee commented that the addition was nicely proportioned and asked
that a cupola be considered in lieu of the vent gable on the south roof and that an
alternative be proposed for the top of the arch window on the south elevation.
PINDAR VINEYARDS STORAGE BUILDING (Main Road - Peconic)
Robert Kassner described a 36,000 square foot climate controlled building
of metal matedal set back from the Main Road. The Committee would like to see
a site plan showing the parcel with the proposed building together with the parcel
to its east in order to see the relationship of the buildings; also a floor plan
showing the usage of the building and photographs of both properties,
The Committee invites the owner and/or the architect to a meeting to be
held next week The concerns for discussion are the appearance of the elevation
facing the road, the visibility of the west elevation from the road, and the mansard
on the east elevation; all to lead to lead to an appearance more in character with
a farm building.
