Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 Fax (516) 765-1823 Telephone (516) 765-1800 LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 1998 MINUTES Present were: Dick Ryan, Noreen McKenna, Mary Bess Phillips, Reed Jarvis, Fred Lee, Tim Caufield, Ray Huntington, Joe Cherepowich and Marion Santacroce. Dick introduced and welcomes the two new members to the committee. Each gave a little of their background. Joe Cherepowich and his sisters put in an application to the committee. Tim Caufield of the Peconic Land Trust has been working with them. Joe gave a brief history of the farm. It is now being farmed by Tony Sep. Approximately 22 acres are being offered to the Town for the purchase of the development rights. This property is also on the County's list. The best thing would probably be a partner- ship program with the County, whereby the Town would buy 50%. It is also on the State list for matching funds that Dick prepared. Tim will contact the Planning Department and check with the County to see where it stands. Community Preservation Project Plan - Dick gave the members a copy of a map, which is the Town of Southold's Community Preservation Project Plan. If the 2% transfer tax is passed, this committee will recommend to the Town Board parcels to be purchased with this money. Dick said the first priority of this program is agricultural land. Tim Caufield got the final okay from the County to work on Southold projects. Number one on the County list is the Laurel Lake area. Tim also visited with John Tuthill of Orient. John wants to get something done but doesn't know exactly what. He appreciates the community's vista there. -2- Dick showed the committee the signs that were made to place on Agricultural Preserved Land and Preserved Open Space Lands. Old Business - There are 4 projects that are still awaiting signed contracts. The Ruland property, Kaloski farm, Ackermann farm and Raphael Vineyards. Fishers Island Project - Andy Stype will be doing an appraisal on the parcel across the street, which also belongs to Janet Fitzgerald. The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 21, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m. ~P~spect fully submitted · dJ~oyce~ M.
