HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/13/2002SOUTHOLD TOWN ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE August 13, 2002 The ARC met at Town Hall at 4:30 p.m.. Members present were: .Garrett A. Strang, Co-Chairman Robert I. Brown, Co-Chairman Herbert Adler, Jr., Landmarks Preservation Committee Herbert Ernest, Southold Yan Reiger, Orient Howard G. Meinke, Cutchogue Robert Keith, Mattituck, Secretary Also present were Victor L'Eplattenier of the Planning Board Staff, David Saland and Joseph Pfaff for Laurel Links as well as Patricia Moore for Hart's Hardware. Moved by Howard Meinke and seconded by Herbert Adler, it was RESOLVED to APPROVE the MINUTES of the meeting of June 25, 2002. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. LAUREL LINKS (Main Road - Laurel) Robert Brown was absent. After learning that the roof vents will be sheathed in copper and seeing catalogue cuts of coach lamps (Westminister ATSL BRT) for exterior building lights and parking lot lights (Westminister ASTL PO4), it was RESOLVED by Robert Keith and seconded by Howard Meinke to APPROVE the APPLICATION. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. HART'S HARDWARE (Main Road - Southold) It was RESOLVED by Robert Keith and seconded by Howard Meinke to TABLE the APPLICATION awaiting details of windows, trim, entrance doom,material between the windows, samples of siding, roofing and stucco, catalogue cuts of exterior lighting and location of roof penetrations. It was understood that the gable sign would not be internally lighted and that an alternative to the use of stucco will be presented. Vote of the Committee: Ayes all. LEWIS MARINE SUPPLY ( Corwin Street - Greenport) Mr. Strang presented the application but did not participate further or vote. It was RESOLVED by Howard Meinke and seconded by Yan Reiger to APPROVE the APPLICATION with the CONDITIONS that the roof pitch on the new and rebuilt structures as well as the colors and materials match the original building. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. Following discussion, it was RESOLVED to REQUEST that the Planning Board and Town Board, during the forthcoming amendments to the TOWN CODE, extend the purview of the Committee to NEW RESIDENTIAL SUBDIVISIONS. The Committee believes that a policy allowing for recommendations as to the visual impact of architecture, materials, vegetation and streetscape will make a significant contribution to the preservation of the character of the community.
