HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/05/2003 SOUTHOLD TOWN ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE August 5, 2003 The ARC met at Town Hall at 4:30 p.m.. Members present were: .Garrett A. Strang, Co-Chairman Robert I. Brown, Co-Chairman Herbert Adler, Jr. Southold Herbert Ernest, Southold Howard Meinke, Cutchogue Robert Keith, Mattituck, Secretary Also present were Bruno Semon of the Planning Board, Gary Joyce of the Traveller-Watchman, John Bertanni and Robert Moeller for Van Duzer, Alfred Delaney for Daffodils, Donald Denis and Richard Case for Riverhead Building Supply, and Thomas and Brent McCarthy for Mattituck Self Storage and Albertson Marine. VAN DUZER GAS SERVICE COMPANY (North Road - Southold) It was RESOLVED by Robert Keith and seconded Howard Meinke to APPROVE the application with the CONDITIONS that roof penetrations be located on the rear of the roof ridge, that the two cupolas be made wider and that a written schedule of finishes be submitted. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. DAFFODILS (North Road - Southold) Considering that this is an existing building that will not be changed, it was RESOLVED by Robert Brown and seconded by Herbert Ernst to note that there was no issue upon which to comment and to express the appreciation of the Committee for the opportunity to review the application. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. RIVERHEAD BUILDING SUPPLY (Main Road - Greenport) It was RESOLVED by Howard Meinke and seconded by Robert Brown to APPROVE an AMENDMENT to the permit to place the air conditioning and heating unit on the roof, two feet below and behind the ridge line of the front building with the UNDERSTANDING that the unit will be screened if it later presents a visual problem. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All MATTITUCK SELF STORAGE ONickham Avenue - Mattituck) After a presentation of alterations to the former K.G. Brown factory to provide 16,500 square feet of storage, it was RESOLVED by Robert Brown and seconded by Robert Keith to TABLE the application pending a field trip to the site. Vote of the Committee: Ayes All. ALBERTSON MARINE (Main Road - Southold) After the presentation of a new marine building, it was RESOLVED by Garrett Strang and seconded by Herbert Adler to TABLE the application and to ask the owner to consider facing the gable end of the building to the road, breaking the expanse of the front and adding interest to it (likely because it will be sales space), giving a higher pitch to the roof, substituting pole mounted lighting facing inward for the150 Watt high pressure sodium vapor light on the building, and providing a new location for the septic system.
