SOUTHOLD TOWN ANTI-BIAS TASK FORCE
MINUTES OCTOBER 17, 2011
PRESENT: PE.TER BELL. MAJORIE DAY, MICHAEL DOMINO.

There is a motion to accept the minutes made by Mike seconded by Marjorie.
All are in favor.
OLD BUSINESS:
1..Loretta reports we can have the diversity art show at the Parish Hall' of
St Agnes (Greenport). Should we have schooI participation? Perhaps
the Spring would be a good time ?
2. The town has approved the proposal for a Resolution for Betty
Murphy. They will do the wording.
3. Jean shares a diversity survey (National) with the committee.
NEW BUSINESS
.. 1. Carolyn has the results fi'om Mattituck small survey. She really can't
present race statistics as the sample is so small.
2. Cindy, Peter and Loretta have met with the police re: grafitti. The
reports we questioned were coded as grafitti. Is it town, County or
Federal Code. Snpervisor RusseIl joins the meeting at ABTF request
and he will speak to the Chief and will arrange a meeting to discuss
clarification that we will all follow protocol of notifying each other.
There is also discussion re: there is no way currently to keep track of
intent of incidents. The police stated they will be in touch by email
with Cindy Smith for furore reports.
3. Rev Heyward suggests that a letter by sent to his congregation if we
are requestiug the use of his church for MLK.
4. There is a proposal and discussion to consider the focus of the MLK
celebration on a theme (current movement with the criticism of raging
economic disparity between the rich and the poor ). Another point
brought up is the amount of money in this country attributed to War, as
MLK was told to stick with Civil Rights not war and money.
5. Should we consider a larger venue with this theme in mind? Should
we speak to Father Tom, Garett Johnson and Father Kim to see if we
could use their church?
6. Rev Heyward suggests we send out the theme when we request a
speaker so that the speaker can then respond to the theme.
7. Crystalnaught Nov 6. Ms Adrienne Greenburg (Temple in Greenport)
requested the ABTF be involved (it begins at 1:30 a film "The Wave" which
touches on the Holocaust. Following the film will be a youth forum (diversity
is hoped fo0 to discuss bullying today.
8, Peter states he would like to see the Spanis!~ community involved in
MLK celebration. Can we speak to Father Tom and Sister Margaret and
distribute a Spanish flyer to promote the idea. Peter makes a motion and Jean
seconds. All are in favor.
Carolyn reviews the results with the committee re: the survey.
Motion to adjourn made by Cindy seconded by Carolyn at 11:30. All are in
favor.
