LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING
MONDAY, JULY 21, 1997
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Tom Madigan, Jim Rich, Fred Lee, Supervisor
Cochran, Ruth Oliva and Stephen Mudd
Stephen Mudd, who is on the Agricultural Advisory Committe spoke
to our committee recommending that a referendum be placed on the
November ballot for farmland preservation. Supervisor Cochran also
spoke in favor of the bond. A motion was made by Tom Madigan and
seconded by Dick Ryan to recommend to the Town Board that a ref-
erendum in the amount of $2,000,000.00 be placed on the November ballot
for farmland preservation. All were in favor.
The committee reviewed the letter and site plan submitted by Richard Lark
regarding the possible purchase of 24 acres of the Dickerson property
between Horton's Lane and Youngs Avenue, Southold. The committee
felt Richard Lark should come to the next meeting so that he could answer
certain questions regarding this matter. Jim Rich will contact Mr. Lark.
Since there is no chairman of the Land Preservation Committee, a motion was
made by Jim Rich and seconded by Fred Lee to nominate Dick Ryan as its
chairman. Dick accepted the nomination and all were in favor. Therefore,
the Land Preservation Committee will recommend that the Town Board
appoint Dick Ryan as its chairman.
Also, the committee discussed the Lathar~ property again. A motion was
made by Tom Madigan and seconded by Fred Lee that a letter be sent to
Robert Hughes, the attorney, explaining to him that the committee will
not support this proposal.
With no further business to be discussed, a motion was made by Tom Madigan
and seconded by Jim Rich to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 p.m.
