Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 ANTI-BIAS TASK FORCE SOUTHOLD TOWN ANTI BIAS TASK FORCE Minutes 6/20/11 Present: Peter Bell, Marjorie Day, Mike Domino, Jean LePre, Mede Levine, Eleanor Lingo, Carolyn Peabody, Valerie Shelby, and Cindy Smith Excused- Betty Murphy New member Loretta Hatzel-Geraci There is a reading of the minutes. Corrections are made 1. Eliminate naming the source of the report made re: swastika. 2. The Swastika incident was in King Kullen not the American Legion. Mike makes a motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Peter seconds. All are in favor. SCHOOL REPORTS: Greenport-Cindy announces that for the last 2 board meetings members in attendance have been dismissed due to the boards need to have an executive session. The ABTF would like to take a position that this action discourages public participation. Mattituck- Although initially it seemed that the school superintendents were supportive of the ABTF and its survey, efforts seem to be minimal to get participation. Val has some thoughts about possible advocates to help ABTF communicate with the schools. There is an exploratory question on the floor. Should ~ve invite the superintendents to the ABTF so that we can begin to have a good working relationship? Carolyn reports that she has put the money up front to pay expenses. Merle makes a motion that expenses be paid out of ABTF budget. All are in favor. PICNIC Date of August 27, 011 is secured at Strawberry Fields. Jean has contacted Pat. she does not want to be chair ofthe ABTF picnic this year. Valerie and Loretta will co- chair the committee. Valerie H-477-2843 C 463-2843. Loretta- 734-8452. There was a letter sent re: duties for task force members. Additional are Carolyn will ask for a donation of Latino food. · All membem are invited to take part in the task of getting donations of food from restaurants. NEW BUSINESS · Swast'Lka may still be in rest mom ofKing Kullen. JeanL. will visit the store to confirm. If so police need to be notified immediately · Community Land Trust- invitations are shared to attend a luncheon to learn more about their organization and proposed work force housing. · Tlae Human Rights Commission cannot investigate police complaints. There is a proposal that complaints be forwarded to the commissioner who will send a fmding of the outcome to the Human Rights Commission. · There is discussion re; Elaine G-ross's article re: the idea of consolidation for integration purposes. Merle will draft a letter in support. · There is acknowledgement of media attention to valedictorian mistake. · Discussion re: proposed tax cap- rich districts oppose it-poor districts will lose. Thoughts are presented stating that school districts should be funded differently. Progressive income tax is another alternative. Send letters to the governor. · There is a motion to adjourn at 11:55.All are in favor. NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED FOR JULY 18, 2011 10 AM-TOWN HALL
