HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/2011Department of Public Works Monthly Report Date: May 2011 · Received permits for work at Town Beach, McCabe's Beach and Kenny's Beach. We are still waiting for permits for the Sound View Avenue Road Restoration Project. · Attended a meeting with a theater group in reference to the use of space at the Peconic Community Center. · Completed clean up and grading of McCabe's Beach (Funded in part with FEMA funds). · Cleaned Kenny's and Town Beach of debris (Funded in part with FEMA funds). · Attended a meeting of the Recreation Committee. · Attended a meeting of the Executive Safety Committee. · Attended a meeting with John Sepenoski in reference to the Bay to Sound Project. · On going trail maintenance on Laurel Lake, Downs Farm, Arshamomaque, Arshamomaque Pond, Dam Pond and Mill Road Preserves. · Prepared bid specifications for the demolition and removal of the concrete block building and old dock at the Laurel Lake Preserve. · Met with a Mattituck Park District representative and North Fork Audubon Piping Plover monitor in reference to vehicles driving on the beaches from several road ends on Long Island Sound. The access points have been restricted and "No Vehicles" signs installed. · Met several times with Laure Klahre from the Land Preservation Office, in reference to stewardship & management plans. · Worked with Jared Goodale on coordinating an Eagle Scout project at the Bittner Preserve. · Checked the status of the grass planting project at the Scavenger Waste Treatment Plant. · McLean Associates has sent a final payment request for DF Stone and a "Notice of Completion" for the Scavenger Waste Treatment Plant project. The Town Attorney has sent a letter to the Village of Greenport requesting a release of our Lease of the facility. · Continuing work with Lori Hulse and the Army Corps of Engineers in reference to the Mattituck Inlet Dredging Project. · Removed an old boat on the Blocker Preserve and met with the contractor that was grading the ROW, as part of a Building Department and ZBA ruling. · Repaired the ceiling in a building on Fishers Island that had water damage and mold. · Started hauling material donated by Cross Sound Ferry from Orient Point to Town Beach. Latham Sand Gravel and the Town of Southold Highway Department are providing the trucks and Latham Sand & Gravel is spreading the material (+6,000 yards). This project is funded in part by FEMA. · Meeting with Corazzini Asphalt in reference to paving the parking lot at Town Beach as part of the beach restoration project. · Meeting with Melissa Spiro, Land Preservation Coordination, Tim Abrams, DPW and Joe Conway in reference to the house being purchased as part of the Conway Farm acquisition. · Work with the Highway Department setting up the Strawberry Field fairgrounds for the Auto Club and Strawberry Festival events. · Dumped additional material in the hole (#2) in back of the Town bulkhead at the end of Mill Road, Mattituck. This bulkhead may need to be replaced in 2012. · Lawn mowing and maintenance is in full swing at all Town facilities with some weeks averaging over 85 acres of mowing.
