LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING
JANUARY 30, 1996
Present were: Joe Gold, Tom Madigan, John Simicich, Jim Rich,
Fred Lee, Michael Croteau and Ruth Oliva
A motion was made by Jim Rich and seconded by Tom Madigan to accept
the Minutes of the November 27, 1995 meeting. All were in favor.
Joe Gold introduced our new member, Fred Lee, to the committee.
The committee discussed the Timothy Steele property. Mr. Steele
had told Joe that he would be planting nursery stock in the spring.
It was decided that once the stock has been planted, the committee would
ask that an appraisal be done.
Lieb Vineyard - the appraisal on this property came in at $9500.00 per
acre for the development rights. A motion was made by John Simicich
and seconded by Fred Lee to offer Mr. Lieb $8500;00 per acre, and if
he accepts this figure, the committee will recommend to the Town Board
to purchase the development rights. All were in favor.
Cassidy property - At our meeting of November 27, 1995 the committee
voted to offer the Cassidys $7000.00 per acre for the development rights,
which they have accepted. They will make a grant of the wetlands to
the Peconic Land Trust. A motion was made by Jim Rich and seconded
by Tom Madigan to recommend to the Town Board the pruchase of this
property. All were in favor.
Donna Dzugas-Smith property - A letter had been sent to Ms. Dzugas-
Smith stating that the committee wouldn't consider her applicationf as
the property didn't look like it was in current agricultural use. However,
Joe met with Ms. Dzugas-Smith at the property and grapes are being
grown. A motion was made by Tom Madigan and seconded by Fred Lee
to recommend to the Town Board that an appraisal be done by Andy Stype
on this property. All were in favor.

Each committee of the Town received a questionnaire from Supervisor
Jean Cochran. Joe Gold showed the Committee his responses to the
memo. The consensus of the committee was to send his memo to the
Supervisor.
Joe received a letter again from Jim Bitses, who would like the Town to
purchase his property on Main Bayview Rd., $outhold under the open
space program. Joe will call him and explain that there is no money
in the open space program at 'this time.
With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned
at 8:45 p.m.
