Box 1179 53095 Main Road Southold, NY 11971*0959 Phone (631) 765-1938 Fax (631) 765-3136 To: Scott A. Russell, Supervisor From: Neboysha R. Brashich, Chairman James A. Richter, Commissioner / Date: April 1,2011 Re: Factory Avenue, Mattituck Issues Commissioners Flatley, Richter, Harris and I met with Waldbaum's Store Manager Bill Geoff on Thursday, March 31 as agreed to in the Commission's March meeting. Essentially, Mr. Geoff reiterated that he could cot control the deliveries by his suppliers, be they box or tractor trailers deliveries - the suppliers have their own set schedules and the loads are put on the tracks according to these schedules. We suggested that a staging area be delineated on the southwestern edge of the parking lot for box deliveries. When pressed, he indicated that he could perhaps work this out, but that the Mattituck Plaza owner is dead set against allowing this. He also suggested that a 15-20 minutes parking area be allowed between the railroad tracks and the Waldbaum dock area. This would enable the box deliveries to be off-loaded sequentially. Once off-loaded, the trucks could be sent to the staging area in the Waldbaum's parking lot while the ~uppliers' shelves were restocked. This, however, would require the owner's full agreement. Hence, the Commission recommends that the existing Factory Avenue "no parking" zones be upgraded as follows: NO PARKING zones should include both sides of Factory Avenue extending from State Route 25 to the Long Island Rail Road track with the following exception: Page 2 b) It is recommended that a cross walk be established to direct pedestrian traffic from the front of the Baptist Church to the existing sidewalk located on the east side of Factory Avenue. This cross walk would be located just north of the existing Curb Cut that is used to access the back of the Waldbaum's Facility. A 30 minutes Loading Zone would be recommended on the easterly side of Factory. This loading Zone would be restricted to the area located between the proposed new cross walk and the LIRR property. The work delineating a new cross walk and clearing of the road shoulder area for Loading Zone parking is considered minor and would be performed by the Highway Department. It is also recommended that all other delivery truck parking that is left unattended should be located within the Waldbaum's Facility Parking Lot area.
