New York 11971 '" Fax (516) 765-1823 Telephone (516) 765-t801 LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE TOWN OF SOUTHOLD LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING MARCH q.. 1996 Present were: Joe Gold, Fred Lee, Jim Rich, Jim Pim and Ruth OIiva. A motion was made by Jim Pim and seconded by Fred Lee to accept the Minutes of the January 30, 1996 meeting. All were in favor. On February 22, 1996 the Town Board adopted a resolution to purchase the development rights on approximately 14.56 acres at $8500.00 per acre from Lieb Vineyards. Also, on February 22nd ;the Town Board adopted a resolution to purchase the development rights on approximately 33.68 acres from the Cassidys for $7000.00 per acre. A motion was made by Jim Pim and seconded by Fred Lee to ask the Town Board to rescind the approval of an appraisal on the Donna Dzugas Smith property. All were in favor. The committee reviewed the Fiore appraisal. A motion was made by Jim Pim and seconded by Jlm Rich to offer the Fiores $7000.00 per acre. Joe will contact them. The committee reviewed the application of Lois Woodhull, whose property is on Elijah Lane between Sound Avenue and Main Road in Mattituck. There are 28+ acres being offered. Joe will call Mrs. Woodhull and tell her that the committee is very interested in this property; however, there is no money in farmland at this time but we will keep this application open. The committee also reviewed the application of Walter Gatz/Ceorge McDowell whose property is on Oregon Road in Cutchogue. Thirty one acres are being offered. The committee is also interested in this property. Joe will contact Walter Gatz or George McDowell and tell them that there is no money in farmland at this time. This application will be kept open. The committee discussed Michael Croteau~s application. It will be put on hold until the committee gets a chance to discuss it with him. Laury Dowd, Town Attorney, told Joe Cold that there are very few guidelines to building on agricultural property where the development rights have been purchased by the Town. If greenhouses are put in the topsoil should be kept. The way the code is written now, we cannot tell the owner not to strip the topsoil. We need more specifics in the code, but not too much.
