HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/14/2010 Town of Southold Housing advisory commisSion MEETING MINUTES MEETING #49 April '14, 20'10 Present: John Vahey, Nancy Pester, Jeanne Kelley, Stephen Kiely, LeRoy Heyliger, Beth Motschenbacher, Rona Smith and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Jenny Gould and Don Wilson. Review of Minutes: Minutes approved for March 10, 2010. Accessory Apartment Leqislative Update: The Town Board has requested that that the Town Attorney enhance legislation with language pertaining to rental permit compliance. Town Board HAC Appointments: Jeanne Kelley and Michael Herbert were appointed. New Millennium Development Services: LeRoy and Phillip met with the director, Tonya Lewter who stated their primary mission is to work with local municipalities to convert properties foreclosed by Suffolk County into affordable housing. Suffolk County Community Development--Analysis of Impediments: Municipalities receiving $200,000 are required by HUD to provide an analysis of impediments to promote fair housing opportunities for minorities' participation in affordable housing. The Town receives considerably less however will need to address its priority populations to ensure that they would not be perceived as "exclusionary". Phillip will speak with the Town Attorney in light of lawsuits filed in Oyster Bay and Westchester that provide preference for local residents were ruled as "discriminatory" in excluding minorities. Review of Proposed Letter to Households on Housinq Reqistr¥: Letter reviewed and edited. Because concrete opportunities are limited consensus to not have households meet with HAC face to face to vet applications but to include in letter that they may be contacted in the near future to present documentation. Applications were also reviewed. Development of Checklist for Vettinq Applicants: Preliminary checklist created. Distribution: NY Times 04/11/10.
