Present: John Vahey, Rona Smith, LeRoy Heyliger, Beth Motschenbacher, Stephen
Kiely and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Jenny Gould, Bill Gatz, Nancy Pester and Don Wilson.
The meeting began at 5:35 p.m.
Introductions and Welcome of Beth Motschenbacher and Stephen Kiely:
Review of Minutes: Minutes approved for August 12, 2009.
Suffolk County Comprehensive Plan Housinq Data: Report of inventory of affordable and Iow-
income housing provided.
Inclusionary Zonin,cl Buyout: The Town Board set the amount for IZ buyout for 2009 at two
times Nassau/Suffolk median income family of four ($203,600 per unit not built).
Affordable Apartment Recommendations: In an effort to advance several HAC
recommendations to promote apartments, Phillip met with the Supervisor and Town Attorney to
synthesize ideas from Town Board and Code Committee meetings that include: · Amending date from 1984 to 2004
· Allowing 25% expansion of foundation for accessory apartments
· Permitting apartments in detached accessory structures solely for family members or for
registrants on Town's affordable housing list--units can be no less than 450 sq. ft. or
greater than 750 sq. ft. on one floor
HAC strongly suggested requiring rental permit to ensure compliance.
Settinq Goals and Objectives for 20'10: In addition to suggestions made at August meeting, it
was agreed to include: development of education materials and creation of incentives (non-
financial) to create affordable units.
Distribution: Newsday 02.26.09, 09.10.09 and 10.06.09.
Next Meetinq Date: November 18th at 5:30 p.m. Supervisor's Conf. room.
