The October 25th memorandum from the Planning Board was distributed as a
follow-up to the HAC meeting with them on October 6th.
Review of Anticipated Costs to Build Accessory Apartment:
John presented a cost estimate of approximately $50,000 to convent space on
first floor to a modest apartment (450 sq. ft.) within the existing envelop and
approximately $150,000 to build new construction elsewhere (second
floor/detached structure).
Accessory Apartment Information from Mark Terry:
HAC provided accessory apartment handouts, including FAQ, at the Town's
recently held Community Economic Forum developed by Mark Terry.
Discussion with Riverhead Buildinq Department and/or Accessory
Apartment Review Board:
Phillip attempted to reach out to review board and was referred to the Building
Department director, Leroy Barnes. HAC members thought that a meeting with
Riverhead would be beneficial. Phillip will schedule a December meeting with
Riverhead designees, most likely at their offices, suggested time and date.
Next Steps:
In light of the current economic challenges, modifications to the draft may be
necessary with emphasis on assistance with loans as the costs to build units may
be prohibitive. Rona remarked that despite difficulties in procuring home equity
loans, tax deductions may warrant further consideration. Foremost, it is
important to ascertain whether the public is interested in doing this. In the New
Year the HAC will assimilate information gathered from the last four months and
redraft the document. The redrafted document will be shared at a public forum
(community meeting) to gain additional input. A meeting with the Town Board
will follow.
Distribution: Newsday, September 29, 2005.
Next Meetinq Date-To be determined.
Respectfully Submitted,
Phillip Beltz
