MEETING #19
April 18, 2007
Present: Nancy Pester, Bill Gatz, John Vahey, Leslie Weisman, Margaret Minichini,
Rona Smith and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Don Leslie, Jr., Leah GIowacki, Sidney Holmes
and Jenny Gould. The meeting began at 5:35 p.m.
Review of Minutes:
The March 21st minutes were approved.
Welcome to New Housinq Advisory Commission Member:
Bill Gatz has joined the HAC and was introduced to existing members.
Cottaqes/CDCLI Update
· Applicant Status-CDCLI is executing contracts with prospective homebuyers.
· Selection of Interior D~cor-Prospective homebuyers met with the builder to select
carpeting, tiles, cabinets, etc.
Housin,q Implementation Plan (HIP):
Additional comments and suggestions were discussed; plan will be amended for a final
draft for approval at the next meeting. Document will be provided before the next
meeting.
Affordable Housinq Developments:
· Rona Smith discussed her proposed Greenport Gateway concept plan.
· Other proposed affordable housing sites are in preliminary discussion.
Other:
Discussion regarding the need for public education to promote affordable housing efforts
throughout the Town (i.e. dispelling myths, etc.) This type of campaign can be costly
and there was consensus from HAC not to include this in the HIP as there is limited
funding available. Phillip offered to contact the Long Island Community Foundation to
inquire if they know of an organization that could present this topic at a future HAC
meeting. John suggested that a report be issued with data/information of the
homeowners at Cottages (e.g. average income, average years living in the Town,
number of children, etc.) Leslie suggested approaching Denise Civiletti to write a story
about "the faces of the Cottages".
