MEETING #13
October 18, 2006
Present: John Vahey, Sidney Holmes, Don Leslie, Jr., Charlie Zaloom, Rona Smith,
Nancy Pester and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Jenny Gould, Leah Glowacki, Leslie
Weisman and Margaret Minichini. The meeting commenced at 5:35 p.m.
Review of Minutes:
The September 20th minutes were approved.
Cotta~es/CDCLI Update:
· Homebuyer Education: CDCLI have completed one-on-one counseling with
potential homeowners. They will be sending a letter to those households who did
not complete the classes to ascertain why they did not finish.
· Housing Fair: Potential homeowners and local financial lending institutions that
will honor the Town's covenant and restrictions will be invited to attend a
housing Pair scheduled for the beginning of November.
Housin~ Implementation Plan - Identification of Sites:
John has not received any replies from stakeholders regarding the identification of sites
within their respective hamlets. Phillip informed the Commission that the North Fork
Community Theatre will be vacating their space from the Mattituck Presbyterian Church
and that the site could be targeted as a potential adaptive re-use for affordable
housing/apartments. Charlie stated that this idea should be tabled until stakeholders from
outside the hamlet of Mattituck also identify sites, as Mattituck has already come forth in
identifying the "Cottages" site.
Hamlet Studies Update: Phillip informed Commission members that Supervisor
Russell sent a letter to stakeholders informing them of the implementation of hamlet
studies findings, as well as ascertaining who wishes to remain involved with the process.
Presentation: Joseph Schroeder, Energy Specialist, Suffolk County Legislature
provided a comprehensive discussion and left materials for Commission members who
could not attend the meeting (they will be provided at next meeting). He welcomed
feedback regarding his presentation. Please send to: joe.schroeder~suffolkcounty, gov.
Future A~enda Items: Mediation specialist, Mary Eisenstein, will present atthe next
meeting.
For Distribution: Article from the New York Times.
Other: Don inquired about the status of the Community Land Trust site in the hamlet of
Greenport West. Philip informed him that the County made an offer to the landowner
and that negotiations are proceeding.
