MEETING # 3
December 06, 2005
Present: Linda Clements, Leslie Weisman, Leah Glowacki, Rona Smith, Margaret Minichini, John Vahey,
Don Leslie, Jr., Charlie Zaloom, Jennifer Gould and Phillip Beltz.
Excused: Sidney Holmes.
The meeting commenced at 5:30 p.m. with introductions.
Review o[Minutes: Approved.
Review of Materials Mailed with October 1ga Minutes: Members discussed the Housing Application
Commission members were in consensus that it was easy to understand however some of the columns need
to be aligned. Commissioners unanimously requested that the application be accessible through the Town's
website. In addition, Leslie Weisman suggested that the application should be translated into Spanish and
readable for the visually impaired.
Information mailed regarding Housing Reports from the Hamlet Study is self-explanatory. The Capital
Improvement Policy draft was briefly discussed. There is no immediate need to amend the draft, however,
Commission members will need to carefully review the document and make recommendations to Phillip.
Commissioners recommended that a grace period (up to one year) be afforded to households residing in
apartment rentals supported under the Town's Affordable Housing programs when their income exceeds
the program's income limits upon re-certification.
Communitl: Development Corporation of Long Islan& Discussion regarding the proposed development
of 24 affordable housing units with 12 containing owner-occupied accessory apartments marketed to
seniors. Commission members were pleased with the progress of this development and requested a
presentation by the CDCLI at the next meeting. Members were informed that the "process" for advancing
affordable housing sites is as follows:
l. Meet with Special Projects Coordinator
2. Meet with SPC and Planning Dept. to formulate concept paper and development of preliminary
sketch plan
3. Meet with Town Board
4. Meet with Planning Board
5. Meet with Respective Hamlet Stakeholders
6. Meet with School Board
7. Meet with Community
8. Public Hearing for Change of Zone and/or Sanitary Flow Credits
Commission members stated that they would like to be actively involved to support projects through
speaking at public hearings and writing letters.
Newsday:Article: An article submitted by John Vahey was distributed that highlights efforts by the State to
provide tax incentives for first time homebuyers as well as a newly created "intergenerational home share"
program.
