HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/19/2005 Town of Southold Housing advisory con~nisSion MEETING # 2 October 19, 2005 Present: Leslie Weisman, Leah Glowacki, Rona Smith, Margaret Minichini, Sidney Holmes, John Vahey, Don Leslie, Jr., Charlie Zaloom, Jennifer Gould and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Lynda Clements. The meeting commenced at 5:35 p.m. Introductions': Commission members introduced themselves. Coffee and tea set-ups will be provided for future meetings. Review of Minutes: Approved. Commission Responsibilities: Members discussed the commission responsibilities. Phillip reiterated that Commission responsibilities relate to making recommendations regarding housing associated with the Housing Fund. A major responsibility is the creation of the Housing Implementation Plan (see below). New York Times Article: An article regarding housing for the middle class was distributed. This story reveals the current trend to create moderate-income housing throughout the country. Example of Funding Stream to Housing Fun& A sample was provided to indicate how funding would be deposited within the Fund through inclusionary zoning legislation. Hamlet Reports: The subsection on housing from the hamlet study reports will be duplicated for Commission review and action towards developing the Housing Implementation Plan. Other Items of Discussion: 1. Commission members sense that there is much to learn to adequately perform their duties. Materials will be offered to provide knowledge and to assist members to learn necessary resources. This information will be essential to enable the group to commence with the development of the Housing Implementation Plan early next year. 2. Accessibility of units should be integrated within efforts to create affordable housing. Leslie will provide the Commission with a website that addresses this issue. 3. Guest speakers should be invited to future meetings to promote the understanding of certain concepts. 4. The housing application should be available on the Town's website.
