RECREATION DEPARTMENT
MONTHLY REPORT: MARCH 2011
THE ART OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION: Southold Town, in cooperation
with National EAP, is conducting a series of Executive Training Programs to help
Department Heads become more effective Managers. I attend the "Art of Conflict
Resolution" seminar on Wednesday, March 2 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Town
Hall Meeting Room.
PLAYGROUND PROGRAM: I received a notice from the Suffolk County
Department of Health Services notifying me that our summer playground program
may be considered a summer day camp. I filled out the questionnaire and mailed
it in. We may have to apply for a permit to operate a children's camp depending
on the results of the questionnaire.
NEW YORK STATE YOUNG BOATER'S COURSE: came to a conclusion
on Thursday, March 31. We had 30 resident youth participate in this program.
The adult boating course will start on Thursday, April 28.
SPRING 2011 RECREATION BROCHURE: was an insert in the Thursday,
March 10 edition of The Suffolk. Registration for all programs and activities has
been steady all month long.
2011 BEACH/SUMMER SEASON: Preparations are underway to ensure
adequate coverage for all six of our town beaches this summer. Applications
were mailed out to last year's beach attendants, beach managers, lifeguards,
playground instructors, and swimming instructors.
PARKS~ BEACHES~ & RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING: was
held on Wednesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. Numerous topics were discussed
including: Handicap Playground Proposal; Spring Sports Fields; Peconic
Community Center; Laurel Lake Ballfield; Recycle Bins; Storm Damage to Town
Beaches; Forever Young Foundation; Dogs at Parks, Beaches, & Preserves;
Musco Lighting, and other varied topics.
