TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING
MAY 13, 1996
MINUTES
The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. Present were: Joe Gold, Tom
Madigan, Jim Pim, Jim Rich, Fred Lee and Ruth Oliva.
The Minutes of the April 8, 1996 meeting were accepted as read.
Joe discussed with the committee the balance of funds remaining
in the Farmland Preservation account. As of April 30, 1996 the
balance is $1,435,000.00. There are four properties that are yet
to close. They are: Lieb, Koroleski, Cassidy and Heins. It
costs approximately $1500.00 per closing. The balance remaining
after these close will be approximately $242,000. This amount is
not enough to buy the development rights on the Fiore property.
Joe has tried to reach Tim Caufield of the Peconic Land Trust to
see if some other arrangement could be made between the Peconic
Land Trust and the Fiores. The Peconic Land Trust has been a
great help in the past.
The committee reviewed Joe's draft for the Land Preservation .Comm-
ittee - Process for Reviewing, Appraising and Recommending the
Purchase of Development Rights. The committee also discussed
Laury Dowd's memo, which suggested that the committee contact
the Planning Board and give them the tax map number of the
property that the Town purchased the development rights on and
they will check the buildings on the property, using the aerial
maps.
At the next meeting the committee will discuss recommending to
the Town Board that a referendum be put on the ballot for farm-
land preservation.
