the Mattituck Park District, held on April 7, 1994 at the Park District
office on Main Road, Mattituck, New York with all Commissioners and
Treasurer present. Commissioner Adams called the meeting to order at
7:10 P.M.
On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner
Goehringer and unanimously carried, minutes from the January 6, 1994
meeting were accepted as read.
Commissioner Adams read correspondence from Town of Southold
Community Development Director James McMahon regarding the Mattituck
Inlet jetty and the project proposed by the Army Corp of Engineers to
reset the west side jetty. Furthermore, Commissioner Adams reported
on his meeting of April 6, 1994 with various Town officials and the
Army Corp. The Corp anticipates the project to last 15 to 18 months
and has requested that the Park District allow use of the east end of
the Breakwater parking field for the purpose of placement of office
trailers and equipment; area would be fenced off. Commissioners
agreed in principal to allow use of east end of parking field.
Commissioner Adams indicated that a public hearing would be held
regarding the entire project.
Commissioner Adams read correspondence from Walter Dohm that he
had transferred his plumbing business to Dick Tandy plumbing.
Barbara Droskoski appeared before the Board to discuss the 1994
beach and lifeguard operation. Barbara indicated that no new
equipment is needed, but has requested that Jim Cox repair the board
damaged in shipment last year for use this summer. Barbara has
requested that she be allowed to purchase first aid supplies, all
Commissioners approved. Commissioners also granted permission for the
lifeguards to sign Health Department inspection reports this summer on
behalf of the District. Barbara will contact Jim Cox with beach
maintenance requirements.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the following salary scale
was adopted for lifeguards for 1994:
First year $ 7.42
Second year $ 7.69
Third year $ 7.95
Fourth year $ 8.22
Fifth year $ 8.48
Sixth year $ 8.75
Seventh year $ 9.01
Eighth year $ 9.28
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, Barbara Droskoski was
appointed as Beach Manager for the 1994 season at a salary of $2,500.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, Treasurer Cushman was
directed to acquire a cellular phone with 911 capability only for use
at the Veteran's Park beach.
On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner
Adams and unanimously qarried, the following Treasurer's report was
approved and bills ordered paid:

At 7:30 P.M., Commissioner Adams opened the following sealed
bids for the 1994 concession at Veteran's Park:
1. Mattituck Village Market bid $200; $250 bid deposit received in
cash.
2. Statewide Group bid $615; $250 bid deposit received by check.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, ~econded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the concession for
Veteran's Park was awarded to Statewide Group at $615 per year.
Kathy Delany was in the audience representing Statewide Group.
Commissioners advised Ms. Delany to contact Jim Cox to inspect facility
and arrange for keys.
Mr. William Guyton Came before the Board to request the District
to consider selling to him the Sacks property. Mr. Guyton is
interested in placing a barn and fence on said property and may be
willing to enter into a long term lease if a sale cannot be arranged.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by Commissioner
Sabat and unanimously carried, Commissioner Adams was authorized to
contact Andy Stype and Peter Kren to appraise the Sacks property for
the District.
Mitch Markowski appeared before the Board to discuss the
situations at the ball fields. Mitch was advised by the Board the Bohn
Contracting would replace the fence damaged at the yacht club field
and that Jim Cox would place a pole at the right field corner for the
softball clubs to arrange to have a net hung from said pole a light
pole to elevate the rightfield fence.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the purchase of 2 light
fixtures at $400 each for the Yacht Club field was approved. Mitch
will try to arrange for placement at no expense to the District.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, Commissioner Adams was
authorized to contact Island Portable for placement of a portable
toilet at the Yacht Club field.
Jim Cox and Crew will arrange to remove bulkhead at east side of
Yacht club beach.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the employment of Travis
Druck was terminated effective December 31, 1993.
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the following employees
were hired for the 1994 season:
Laborers
Frank Kowalski effective April 4, 1994 at $6.00 per hour
Brian Farrish effecive April 4, 1994 at $5.50 per hour
James Olsen effective April 4, 1994 at $5.00 per hour
Beach Attendants
Betty Tyler at $2,350 for season
Denise Goehringer, salary to be set at May, 1994 meeting
Kerry Paasch, salary to be set at May, 1994 meeting
Mathew Litchhult, salary to be set at May, 1994 meeting
Debra Cox, salary to be set at May, 1994 meeting
On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by
Commissioner Adams and unanimously carried, Jim Cox was authorized
to take Hustler mower to All County Equipment for right hydraulic
repair and estimate for other repairs.
Jim Cox will be directed by Commissioner Adams to contact Dwight
Edstrom to replace pilings damaged this winter at the boat ramp.
Commissioner Goehringer excused himself from the meeting at 8:00
P.M.
Mitch Markowski will get a key from Jim Cox to bathroom building
at Yacht Club for storage of supplies.
Commissioner Adams will investigate with District's attorney
regarding a lease of the Yacht Club field to the softball league.
Commissioner Adams requested Mitch Markowski to bring Mindy
Vitale with him to the May, 1994 meeting to discuss Yacht Club field.
On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner
Adams and carried by a 2-0 vote, permission was granted to the Town
of Southold to use the Veteran's Park beach for 1994 swimming lessons.
Commissioner Sabat will arrange for light fixtures to be adjusted
at Sabat Field.
With no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Adams, seconded by
Commissioner Goehringer and carried by a 2-0 vote.
