Rules and Regulations
Governing Use of Parks
THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS WERE
ADOPTED FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF IN-
SURLNG THE MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT,
WITH SAFETY AND COMFORT, OF ALL
RESIDENTS USING THE PARK DISTRICT
PROPERTY. THE PARK COMMISSIONERS
ASI~ YOUR COOPERATION IN COMPLYING
WITH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS
SO THAT EVERYONE USING THE PARKS
WIL~HAVE A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE TIME.

Rules and Regulations
Governing Use of Parks
WHEREAS, pursuant to provisions of Chapter
924 of the Laws of 1941 of the State of New
York, the Park Commissioners have the authority
to adopt by resolution, rules and regulations with
respect to the use and enjoyment and the mainten-
ance of order on all park property:
RESOLVED, the following rules, regulations
and provisions shall apply to all of the Mattituck
Park District properties.
1. USE OF PARKS -- Use of parks shall be
restricted to residents and/or owners of taxable
real property residing in the Mattituck Park Dis-
trict. Any resident shall be allowed a reasonable
number of guests as long as said guests accompany
him while using the Park District Property.
2. OPENING AND CLOSING -- The park
shall be opened and closed at the time and hour
designated by the Park Connnission. No person
shall use the park at a time or an hour other than
that designated. Opening and closing time for
the various facilities will be posted for the con-
venience of the park district. No overnight park-
ing, housing or camping shall be allowed except
under special permit obtained from the Park Com-
missioners.
3. M1NORS -- No person under ten (10)
years of age shall be admitted to the park unless
accompanied by an adult who shall assume full
responsibility for his safety and conduct.
4. PARKING -- Vehicles entering any Park
District property shall enter only at the desig-
nated entrances and leave only through designat-
ed exits. Parking of vehicles is permitted only
in designated areas.
5. LOSS, DAMAGE AND THEFT -- The
Park District will not be responsible for loss, da-
mage or theft to cars and their contents, nor to
private property. Such loss, whether inside of
buildings or on the grounds of the park, shall be
the patrons' responsibility.
6. PICNICS AND OUTINGS -- The Park
Commissioners shall designate the areas to be oc-
cupied and shall regulate the use of recreation fa-
cilities so as to prevent congestion and shall dis-
tribute patrons of the park over the park area in
order to insure the maximum use of the park
area, and in behalf of the comfort of said pa-
trons. All organized picnics and outings shall
first obtain a special permit from the Park Com-
missioners.
7. FIRES -- No person shall kindle, build,
maintain or use a fire anywhere within the park
properties except in designated areas so marked or
under a special permit obtained from the Park
Commissioners.
8. GAMES -- No person shall throw or use
any type of ball, bean bag or other object, play
an), ball game or roller skate, except in such
places designated for such use, nor engage in
skateboard, go-cart or motor scooter riding, toy
aviation, kite flying or model boating.
9. CAMPING -- No person shall tent or
camp or erect or maintain a tent, shelter or camp
in the park, except under special permit obtained
from the Park Commissioners.
10. ANIMALS -- No person owning or being
custodian or having control of any animal shall
cause or permit such animal to enter the park
and any such animal found at large may be im-
pounded. Any animals seized as above provided
will be delivered to the public pound.
11. SWIMMING AND BATHING -- Swim-
ming and bathing is permitted only in the water
area delineated or enclosed by floating lines of
markers. No person shall launch, land, moor or
operate any boat or vessel in, through or across
the swimming and bathing area. No fishing is
permitted in the swimming and bathing area.
Areas in front of lifeguard stands marked with
green flags are to remain clear of people, blan-
kets, umbrellas, and any other obstruction that
might interfere with the performance of lifeguard
duties.
In severe weather or under other dangerous
conditions, lifeguard shall have the authority to
limit bathing and swimming.
12. CONCESSIONS -- The selling, vending or
offering for sale of any wares, foodstuffs or mer-
chandise upon the park grounds is strictly pro-
hibited except where in such case and instance
the Park Commissioners have issued a permit
therefor.
13. REFUSE AND GARBAGE -- No person
shall throw, break, cast, lay or deposit bottles,
cartons, papers, wrappers, garbage or refuse of
any kind or nature on the Park District property
bur shall place the same in containers provided
therefor.
14. ADVERTISING -- No person shall post,

cast or leave about, any bill, billboard, placard,
ticket, handbill, circular or advertisement; display
any flag, banner, transparency, target, sign, pla-
card or any other matter for advertising purposes;
or operate an>, musical instrument or drum or
cause any noise to be made for advertising pur-
poses, or for the purpose of attracting attention to
any exhibition, performance, show or other put-
pose except as authorized by the Park Commis.

15. MEETINGS, EXHIBITIONS, PARADES,
RACING, ETC. -- No person shall erect any
structures, stand or platform, hold any meeting,
perform any ceremony, make a speech, address or
harangue; exhibit or distribute any sign, placard,
notice, declaration or appeal of any kind or de-
scription; exhibit any dramatic performance, or
the performance in v. hole or in part of any inter-
lude, tragedy, comedy, opera, ballet, play, farce,
dancing, entertaimnent, motion picture, public
fair, circus, juggling, ropewalking, or any other
acrobatics, or sbow of any kind or nature; or run
or race any horse, or other animal or being in or
on a vehicle, race with another vehicle or horse,
whether such race is founded on any stake, bet or
otherwise; in the park except by permit. No pa-
rade, drill or maneuver of any kind shall be con-
ducted, nor shall any procession form for parade
or proceed in the park without a permit from the
Park Conmaissioners.
16. PROTECTION OF PROPERTY -- No
.person shall injure, deface, displace, remove, fill
in, raise, destroy or tamper with any drive, path
or walk; take up, remove or carry away trees,
shrubs, turf or any material or substance; remove
or destroy any structure, building or any appur-
tenances connected with the park or any other
property or equipment, real or personal, owned by
the Park District, or under the jurisdiction and
control of the Park District.
17. FIREARMS, FIREWORKS AND EX-
PLOSIVES -- No person shall have or carry,
whether or not concealed upon his person, any
pistol or revolver, rifle, shotgun or any air-gun,
spring gun or other weapon in which the propel-
ling force is a spring or air, except when so auth-
orized by law.
No person, except in the performance of of-
ficial duties shall discharge a firearm, air-gun, or
other instrument or weapon in the park in such
a manner that a projectile enters or is likely to
enter the park.
No person shall bring into or have in said park
any explosives or fireworks, including any sub-
stance, compound, mixture or article having prop-
erties of such a d~aracter that alone or in com-
bination or contiguity with other substances or
compounds may decompose suddenly and generate
sufficient heat, gas, or pressure, or any or all of
them to produce rapid flame, combustion or ad-
minister a destructive blow to surrounding objects.
18. CONDUCT OF PATRONS -- Every per-
son shall conduct himself in an orderly manner
and shall endeavor to cause no discomfort or in-
convenience to any person or patron. Gambling
is strictly prohibited in all areas of the park.
19. PERMITS -- A permit, license or identi-
fication tag to do any act shall authorize the same
only insofar as it may be performed in strict ac-
cordance with the terms and conditions of said
permit, license or identification tag. Any viola-
tion by its holder shall constitute ground for re-
vocation by the Park Commissioners or their auth-
orlzed representative.
20. CONSTRUCTION AND SCOPE OF
RULES AND REGULATIONS -- Any term in
the singular shall include the plural. Any term
in the masculine sl~all include the feminine. Per-
son shall be construed to mean natural person,
corporation, company, association or co-partner-
ship. The term "park" unless specifically limit-
ed, shall be deemed to include all park areas, spurs,
open spaces, entrances, approaches, playgrounds,
athletic fields, buildings and other areas and fa-
cilities under the jurisdiction of the Matrituck
Park Commissioners.
21. INDIVIDUAL PARK RULES -- In ad-
dition to the foregoing rules and regulations, var-
ious Mattituck Park properties are subject to ad-
ditional rules and regulations covering the use
of a particular park. Such rules and regulations
may be obtained from the Park Commissioners or
their authorized representative.
22. VIOLATIONS -- The violation of any
provision of the rules and regulations herein shall
be cause for eviction from the park properties and
revocation of all park privileges as well as any
criminal penalty as a result of such violation.
23. DATE OF RULES AND REGULATIONS
-- These rules and regulations shall take effect
immediately.
