Mr. Adams stated that David Coughlin had been hired
at $280.00 and that at the end of his probationary period
he would be entitled to medical insurance. The above
was motioned by Edward Adms0 seconded by Gerry Goehringer
and Carried unanimously.
The boat ramp at Long Island Sound was discussed.
The Commissioners felt that they should not get involved
with a political town issued. At this time the meeting
was joined by 12 people regarding the issue including
Mr. George Penny from the Southold Town Board of Trustees.
Mr. Penny said that the Dietz property had been deeded
to the Town of Southold. That the concept of the ramp
has never been completedly supported by the Town Board.
Lydia Fatara, President of the Capt. Kidd Association
said that the area discussed is known as the Dietz property
which north of the tanks. She said it had been stated
that the Town would take part of the Park District on the
opposite side to mm~e a parking lot.
Mrs. Fatara also said:
1. Felt that launching small vessels in the channel
would create a navigational hazard.
2. It would be Town's responsibility for monitoring
it.
3. Area to be taken of Mattituck Park District
property had 15 species of plants and vegetation
on it.
Capt. Kidd Association is very proud of Sound Beach
and compliment Board of Commissioners for the fine
beach.
Mr. Stanley Sledjeski spoke. He said original
creek dredged and that is where the dunes came from.
He feels that the Board of Commissioners would be
very much at fault to do anything that degraded
what the founding fathers of the District had
foresight to do.
Charlie Sodorski spoke as a spokesman for the
Commercial Fishermen's Association. They are against
the ramp as it is very shallow there in the creek
and at low tide commercial fisherman have very
little area to get through and wibh a launching
ramp there it would put the fishermen in a serious
situation.
Mr. Graeb stated that the Town can do anything
they want to about a boat ramp but that in no way
wil the Town infringe on the Park District Property.
Ted Wells asked about the building at the
Sound. Mr. Goehringer said the Commissioners had
a demoltion permit for the west side of the
building. A farm is to take way the building as
soon as his crops are planted. The bathrooms
will be completed and stuccoed.
Salvatore Totara is the man who complained
about the moving of the dunes. The reason he
complained was that the custodian of the District
was pushing back the shoulder too far, in his
opinion.
People thanked the Park Commission for their
interest and left the meeting.
Mr. Adams reported that one of the Little League
coaches wanted to use some of the Park District vehicles
in fixing the field. Mr. Adams said that it cannot be
done because of insurance.
Girls are starting at Veterans Park on Fridayk
May 22, 23, 24. They will work at Vet's Park only
until school is out.
Commissioners agreed to put David Coughlin and Jim
Cox on the Disability Insurance Policy.
Peter Sabat said that some priorities had to be
had as to what had to be done at the sites. Mr. Adams
said he had given Mr. Cox a list of priories which had
to be worked on.
Ray Nine is going to fix~the holes in the parking
lot at Love Lane.
Secretary to write to Mr. Larry DePetris indicating
that the Commissioners appreciate his concern of the
parking lots but the~ommissioners have no j~isdiction
with the Town parking lots.
No further business to come before the meeting, the
meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
