HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-04/11/2002 Minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the
Matfituck Park District held on April 11, 2002 at the Park District Office on Main Road,
Mattitagk, New York, with all Commissioners present (Chairman, Chris Talbot, Walter
Sabat, Gerard Goehringer), together with Treasurer, John Cushman, Secretary, Madeline
Haas, Gall Faircloth, Gate Guard Attendant, and James Cox, Sr., Labor Crew Leader.
Also present were Barbara Droskoski, Life Guard Coordinator, Kim Prokop, Playground
Committee person, Mr. Bogardus, Boy Scout Leader, Gail Wickham, Attorney for the
District, and Jose Aquilera, regarding Aldrich Lane site..
At 7:30 P.M. Chairman Talbot called the meeting to order and Chairman Talbot
opened the one sealed bid for the Veterans Park concession The bid was made by
Paraskevi Diakovasilis Kontoveros, 1095 Westphalia Road, Mattituck, New York. She
bid $825.00 and enclosed a check for $150.00 which was asked for in the Instructions to
Bidders, On motion Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the Bid
of Mrs. Diakovasilis-Kontoveros was accepted.
Chairman Talbot reported that Anne Miester of Northport made an offer of
$98,000.00, to purchase the Park District Office on Main Road, Mattituck, NY, Celic
Realty was the realtor. On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat and
carded, the Commissioners agreed on the sale.
Barbara Droskoski was informed that the Park beaches opened on June 28, 2002.
Barbara informed the Commissioners that she needed umbrellas and rescue supplies. She
was told by Mr. Goehringer to check with Raynor-Suter Hardware for umbrellas and also
to check with BJ's in Riverhead. If she gets a list of reseue supplies to Gerard
Goehringer, he will take care of procuring them..
Barbara also.asked about the pay scale for the life guards being raised. On motion
of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, Commissioners agreed to
the following life guard salaries:
1st Year $11.00 per hour
2nd Year $11.50
3~d Year $11.75
4t~ Year $12.00
5th Year $12.50
6th Year $12.75
7th Year $13.00
Barabara Droskoski $ 4,000.00.for the season
Mr. Bogardus is a scout leader and came to ask about the platforms stored
downstairs in the Lodge. He has quite a large group and there isn't enough room with
these platforms there~ Commissioners informed him they will be moved.
Mr. Bogardus said he would he able donate some building supplies that he has a
surplus of left from jobs he has done in his business and would help to fix the Lodge with
his scouts. Mr. Bogardus said he has a scout who is to start on his Eagle Scout project.
Perhaps the repairs could be his project. He will get back to the Commissioners on this
matter.
Klm Prokop spoke about the complaints that she has received from people about
the piece of equipment at the playground at Veterans' Park that the kids keep bumping
their heads on. Commissioners to check it out and possibly pad the bar.
Klm also said they need more sand for the playground area.
Mr. Aquilera; who is employed by Sid and Tom Beebe, has 12 ball teams. He
would like the use of the Aldrich Lane site on Sundays only. Gall Wiekham said the
traveling teams practice there at times on Sundays. Commissioners told Mr. Aquilera to
furnish them with a schedule of games and they would let him know which games might
be able to be played there.
On motion of Chris Talbot, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the minutes of
the March meeting were approved as presented.
On motion of Chris Talbot, seconded of Gerard Goehringer and carried, the
following Treasurer's report was approved and the following bills ordered paid:

Commissioners reported that we have an Agreement to settle the case at Wolf Pit
Lake with the DEC. It states that after the Agreement is signed, the District has thirty
(30) days to remove the bulkhead.
Reported that the lights are working at Aldrich Lane. Walter Sabat to have Sabat
Electric check out what has to be done with the lights to have them consistently working.
Commissioners report that every form submitted by anyone for use of Scouter's
Lodge whether it be a party or meeting or any kind of gathering has to have a Certificate
of Liability Insurance whether they will be serving alcohol or not.
Tom Beebe reported to the Commissioners that he would hke to hold a basketball
clinic at Aldrich Lane on April 27, 2002 or in case of rain on April 28, 2002. On motion
of Chris Talbot, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the Commissioners okayed the
Mx. Talbot reported that the Slo Pitch League will be using the Yacht Club site on
Monday through Thursday. Jim Cox to check with Mx. Cooper about a pole for the
Yacht Club.
It was reported that Little League uses the Yacht Club site on Friday nights..
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the
parking lot at the Aldrich Lane site will be fixed with approximately 80 yards of crushed
concrete at the cost of approximately $1200.00.
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Chris Talbot and carried, the
following salaries for the gate guards for the 2002 season are as follows:
Denise Goehringer $ 8.00
Amanda Amato 6.15
Dispena Siolis 6.50
Meghan Schutt 6.00.
Jim Cox reported the parking permits are in; locks will be changed on May
and we have a Community Service worker, Mark Mitchell, for 100 hours.
Gall Faircloth reported the copy machine is not working. Gerard Goehringer told
Jim Cox to go and up-date the one we have.
No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Walter Sabat,
seconded by Chris Talbot and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
