HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-03/14/2002 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on March 14, 2002, at the Park District Office on the Main Road, Mattituck, New York, with all Commissioners present ( Chairman Talbot, Waiter Sabat, and Gerry Goehringer), together with Secretary, Madeline Haas, Labor Crew Leader, Jim Cox, Sr., and Gall Fairetoth, Gate Guard attendant. Absent: Treasurer, John Cushman. Mr. John Harris was present to discuss the Soccer fields at Aldrich Lane. He asked if the lights could be turned on now because soccer has started. He also asked about the irrigation system. He also said the fields had to be fertilized and estimated the cost of fertilizer to be $1400.00 to $1500.00. The Commissioners said the District would pay for the fertilizer and Mr. Harris said he would put it down. He also said there was going to be a Soccer Camp from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 N from August 12, 2002 to August 16, 2002. Chairman Talbot asked Mr. Harris to let the Soccer League people know that the District is not charging the league for using the field. That story had gotten back to Mr. Talbot and he was a little upset. Mr. Harris thanked the Board for their time and cooperation and then left the meeting. Chairman Talbot then officially opened the meeting. On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Chris Talbot and carned, the minutes of the February meeting were approved as presented. On motion of Chris Talbot, seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the following Treasurer's report was approved and the following bills ordered paid: Cash $ 2,653.01 Cash in Time 0.00 Cash in MBIA/CLASS 219,581.01 Total $ 222,234.02 Bills ordered paid: Academy Printing Services Andrew Stype Realty, Inc. The State Insurance Fund $ 769.85 5.00 112.53 623.70 Mr. Warren Sambach entered the meeting. The Commissioners had several changes to the plans of the new building which Mr. Samhach said he would do and get the plans back as soon as possible so that bids can go out on the building. Gerard Goehringer reported that the Mattituck Fire Commissioners do not want the Pike Street property parking lot as they do not want the property for the sole use of a parking lot. Mr. Goehringer said Gall Wickham should be contacted about sending a letter to Charles Zahra to see if he had any interest in buying the property. A pemfit has not been given to the Park District by the DEC for removal of the illegal bulkhead put in at Wolf Pit Lake. Gall Wickham recommended that we do not remove anything until DEC says it is okay. Chairman Talbot reported meeting with Josh Horton, Town Supervisor, on March 11, 2002 along with other officers of New York State, DEC, Army Engineers. The Army Engineers said they do not have money to do the dredging at the Breakwater at this time. Gerard Goehringer reported the grant of $20,000.00 from Assemblywoman Acampora and Mr. LeValle will be coming soon for the playground. Barbara Droskoski is to be asked to come to the April meeting on April 11, 2002. The Volleyball schedule has been received from the Summer League. The West Beach Association is extremely upset about the dredging. They are concerned that dredging in fi.om of the beach under the water will cause a problem in front of their properties. On motion of Chairman Talbot, seconded by Gerard Goehringer and carried, the Notice to Bidders for the concession stand at Veterans' Park should go out to Suffolk Times so that the bids can be opened at the April 11t~ meeting. The Commissioners wanted the amount of the bid to not be less than $750.00. Jim Cox reported that David Reeve got cut on the table saw. Jim took him to ELI Hospital where they cleaned it and told him to only come back if it festers up. Jim Cox also reported that the backhoe came back from Malvese. Jim also said a table was broken by Mattituck Cub Scouts. Jim to call the leader to ask how the table got brokem. Jim Cox requested an executive session after the meeting. The flags at the boat ramp, Veterans' Park, and Scouters' Lodge have to be replaced. The gutter on the Love Lane building has to have a drain put in so the water does not fill up the neighboring cesspool. It was reported that the only telephone listed in the phone book was the Scouters' Lodge. Gall to call and have the other phones listed. Kim Prokop is to be reimbursed for $400.00 from the Park District and $200.00 from the Chamber of Commerce for ~ ~a.-~.L~ ~q~ ~._:~, No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Walter Sabat, seconded by Chris Talbot and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
