HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/11/1960~uly 11, 1960 A special meeting of the was held on the above date at Cutchogue, Cutchogue-New Suffolk Park Co---Ission the home of Frank Rogers, Main Road, The 3 Commissioners-Curtis Horton, Corwin Grathwohl~ Frank Rogers ~nd Attorneys William Wickham and Edgar Hills were present, Mr. Wickha~ stated that the Act to legalize, validate, ratify and confir~ the creation and establishment of the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Park District in the Town of Southold had been signed by the Governor effective Apmil 21, 1960. ( see copy of Act attached) Mr. Wickham also stated that Mr. Walter Grabie came to his office and said he had an offer of $10,000, for his Nassau Point parcel. He wanted to know if the District or the Nassau Point people wanted to purchase the parcel or whether he could offer it to interested party. Letter was written May 9th. to Attorneys for Nassau Point Causeway Assn. regarding this matter, Letter in reply stated Nassau Point Causeway Assn. not interested in Grabie parcel and it could be sold to interested party, Telephone conversationw ith Mr. P, Lundberg, Attorney for Nassau Point Causeway Assn. reaffirming that under no condition was Nassau Polur Causeway Assn. interested in the Grabie parcel but they would offer Causeway parcel to the District, Mr. Wickham also stated that he had a phone call f rom Supervisor Henry Tuthil! stating that Mr. 0urtis Horton had been appointed Commissioner and he would have Clerk send confirmation of it, Supervisor also inquired about progress made by Park Commission and stated he would be g lad to ~et with them when they had reached a decision, Mr. Wickham advised the Commissioners that the option with Mr. W. Grabie had been extended two or three times. It expired as of July 1950. -2- He stated Commissioners legally not bound to any agreement with Mr. Grabie. Mr. Corwln Grathwo~l stated that he was in favor of purchasing the Causeway only if the Nassau Point Causeway Association purchased the Grabie parcel. He said,"that was the wqy it w#s in the beginning and he feels that it should still be that way", although it never came to anything written. Mr. Curtis Horton asked if there was any reason why both the Grabie property and the Causeway could not be purchased. He felt that the Grabis parcel should be purchased if only one parcel is acceptable~ to the Town Hoard. He would vote for the purchase of the Grabie property. Mr. Frank Hog,rs stated that he had discussed the purchase of the Causeway parcel with residents of the District and found no oppositioh to t~e purchase of the Causeway, However, theN' were strongly opposed to the purchase of the Grabie property as they felt it was too far to travel and felt that the Causeway was the better purchase of the two, ~herefore, he would vote for the purchase of the Causews~, Attorney Edgar Hills advised the Commissioners to consider the need of both parcels and also whether or not there was money available to purchase both. He recommended that the Commissioners meet with the Town Board informally and leave the decision up to them, as the Town Board makes the final decision. Mr. C. Grathwohl suggested the purchase of the Fensch$Olsen property at New Suffolk. Mr. Horton was also in favor or purchasing this property. Mr. Rogers against purchase, as he felt the asking price of for 255 feet Bay front, too high. Mr. Wickham stated that the Assessors quote $80. a foot Bay front ~a fair price. He also agreed that the asking price was much too high. Commissioners finally agreed to phone Supervisor Henry Tuthill to -3- make an appointment to meet with the Town Board on Tuesday,July 13, 1960 to discuss the matter informallye Respectfully submitted, Frank B.
