One is the use of Aldrich Lane as a main throughway connectin~ Route 25 with Sound Avenue. I thought I might someday enjoy the environment Southold Town offers while walking a baby carriage or riding a child on the back of my bike. And on occasion I have actually dared to go beyond my driveway onto our road, Aldrich Lane. It happens to be a truck route with no posted speed limit. I've been told this assumes a speed limit of 55. Too often that means speeds of 60 or 65. Presently on this road we have 10 schoo].-a~ed children, 5 pre- schoolers and the promise of others to come. We also have a newly constructed ball field at the South end of the street which presumably will draw children. With the raising of the bridge in Laurel, which would perhaps lighten the truck load on Aldrich Lane, I had hoped to rally some interest in a more liveable speed limit - something like the 30 miles per hour that Herricks Lane, just one block west of us, enjoys. I even entertained the thought of the loveliness of a bike path - something that would be a beautiful t~wn-wide idea~ My second concern is the projected p~pulation of ~0,000. As a main throughway, Aldrich Lane would definitely be affected should the population double. But so would all of our roads. As i~ is, so few of them are capable of safely accommodating cars and trucks along with carriages, bicy$cles or Joggers. What a treat it would be to see in our Easter Plan ideas for enhancin~ the enjoyment of what is already here. I would greatly appreciate an understanding of how the proposed plan might eventually and specifically affect Aldrich Lane. While I'm sure this proposal has been an amduous task, I do feel some concern about it bein~ the best to offer,-- for more reasons then the two that I have commented on. Thank you for your attention to this letter. Sincerely, Mary Ellen Tomaszewski, Laurel Resident cc, Southold Town Board
