Dear Mr. Murphy and Members of the Board:
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Elsky requested that their property on
Route 25 in Orient be zoned Hamlet Business on the proposed
Master Plan.
The property is located directly across from the Plum Island
Ferry and Orient by the Sea Marina as well as diagonally
across from the Cross Sound Ferry. The easterly side of
Route 25 is to be zoned Marina Business which will allow
marinas and marine repairs. Furthermore, by Special
Exception, the property may develop into restaurants, retail
sales of boating, fishing or bathing supplies as well as
transient and resort hotels. These commercial enterprises
detract from the residential use of the property on Route 25
due to the heavy traffic patterns and summertime congestion.
Mr. and Mrs. Elsky's property and adjacent properties on
Route 25, which are across from the present and future
commercial enterprises in Orient, should be zoned Hamlet
Business to permit Mr. and Mrs. Elsky and others on Route 25
to develop their property in conformity with the commercial
development of the area.
