HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/10/2011 Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes of January 10, 2011 Present: Sara Maaiki, Jessica Stumpf, Jim Gorman, Liza Coppola, Irene Bradley, Barbara Sherryl, Elaine White, Tom Rabbitt, Karen McLaughlin, Officer William Brewer, Councilman Vincent Orlando and Phillip Beltz. th Review of November 8 Minutes: Approved. Report of Subcommittees: Jessica and Sara reported that the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) held a holiday pizza party and made cookies and cards for San Simeon residents. Anti-Bias Education Day Initiative: ?? Phillip reported that a survey developed by Stony Brook doctoral student and Dr. Carolyn Peabody from the Anti-Bias Taskforce will be disseminated in January. ?? The schools reported that they are moving forward with Anti-Bias Education initiatives as follows: Greenport: Werner Reich and other speakers lead a forum and workshop; students broke into groups, PSA announcements and articles in the newspaper. Mattituck is meeting one time a month with 20 youth leaders (Anti-Bias thth club), the club will meet with 7 and 8 grades re bullying, Werner Reich is speaking thth February 10 and 11, Southold hosted a workshop on bullying and the BOCES Arts and Education is planning a play. Youth Bureau Report 2010: Distributed electronically, no questions or comments. Social Host Law Update: Phillip reported that Suffolk legislature amended the legislation to include mobile sites, hotels, etc. prohibiting adults abetting underage drinking. Advertising: In addition to the Suffolk Times monthly one-half page for the Town’s community notices, the Recreation Center bulletin is excellent vehicle (deadline 2.21). Meeting with Julie Kleinhans, Mind Focus Generation: Distribution of materials. Developing Goals and Objectives for 2011: See below: 1. Achieve greater diversity in Youth Bureau and YAC – this also includes youth that are not overachievers. 2. Development of educational Teen Wellness Workshops (Bullying, Dealing with Stress, Alcohol and Other Drugs) etc. 3. Update Resource Directory 4. Support YAC Initiatives 5. Develop Guest Speaker List 6.
