HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-05/04/1995 Minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District, held on May 4, 1995 at ?:00 P.M. at the Park District office on Main Road, Mattituck, New York with ail Commissioners and Treasurer John Cushman present. Labor Crew Leader Jim Cox arrived at ?:15 P.M. On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner Adams, and unanimously carried, the minutes of the April, 1995 meeting were approved. Arnold Goltze from Tasco requested and received an old survey showing the Bailey Beach property. He agreed to return it to Secretary Haas. Chairman Adams reported that correspondence was received from Ken Reeves of the Southold Town Recreation Department requesting use of the Veteran's Park beach for swimming lessons. On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, second by Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, permission was granted for use of the beach to the west of the ropes from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. for the period June 26, 1995 to July 7, 1995. After a brief discussion, the Commissioners agreed to increase the weekly hours to be worked by the labor crews from 20 hours to 40 hours effective June 1, 1995. Commissioner Adams reported that the bulkheads at both Veteran's Park and the Yacht Club are in need of repair. After a brief discussion, the Commissioners agreed that Jim Cox would repair the bulkhead at Veteran's Park by instailing appropriate CCA lumber and plywood and backfilling with sand and that Commissioner Adams would contact Jeff Strong regarding repairs to or removai of the Yacht Club bulkhead. Commissioner Adams reported that the Cub Scouts have requested permission to plant white birch trees at Wolf Pit. On a motion by Commissioner Adams, second by Commissioner Sabat, and unanimously carried, permission was granted. Commissioner Sabat reported that the Soccer League has agreed to pay for half of the estimated $1,000 cost of seeding the infield at Sabat Field. At the request of Commissioner Adams, Jim Cox will replace the net post at the Tennis Courts and place the nets. At the request of the Commissioners, Jim Cox will move the fencing for the port-a-potti at the Yacth Club to an area adjacent to the building. Commissioner Goehringer reported that the building permit for the slab at the Breakwater concession should be received shortly. The Commissioners reviewed and approved the plans for the slab submitted by Commissioner Goehringer, and on a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, second by Commissioner Sabat and unanimously carried, the bid of mason John Kowalski for the slab work at a price of $3,750 was accepted. In addition, Ray Nine will be contacted by Commissioner Goehringer to excavate for the slab. CommiSsioner Adams will request SeCretary Haas to send a letter to the Society requesting a donation to the District for said services. Commissioner Sabat reported that the electric panels at the Yacht Club field are badly deteriorated. After a brief discussion, the Coiamissioners agreed that Commissioner Adams will request representatives from the softball leagues to appear at the June meeting to discuss sharing the expense of the repairs or the light bills. Jim Cox reported the following items: - he has developed and implemented the use of complaint forms to record ail complaints he receives. Commissioners agreed to review complaint forms periodically, after which Jim Cox will file. - he believes the District could exchange its flail mower for a broom for attachment to the tractor. - the truck liner and rear window guard is in the pickup. -' the dump truck has been serviced at Mullen Motors. On a motion by Commissioner Goehringer, seconded by Commissioner Adams and unanimously approved, it was agreed that Special Use Permits would be issued for a $25 fee which would include use of the dumpster. The fee may be waived for the Senior's group if they agree not to use the dumpster. In addition, the dumpster will be locked and moved away from the building. On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner G0ehringer, and unanimously carried, the pay rate for Beach Attendant Rebecca Lessard for the year 1995 was increased to $4.75 per hour. On a motion by Commissioner Sabat, seconded by Commissioner Goehringer, and unanimously carried, permission was granted for Jim Cox and either Russ Nine or Harry Charkow to attend Janvey's expo at their offices in Hempstead on May 23 or 24, 1995.
