Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held
on Febz~/ary 1, 1996 at the Park District Office, Main Road,
Mattituck, Hew York, with Commissioners Edward Adams, Gerard
Goehringer, Treasurer Cushman, Secretary Haas, and Head
Custodian Cox present. Commissioner Sabat was absent.
Due to inclement weather in December, 1995, the
advertised election of a Commissioner for a term of three
years to succeed Gerard Goehringer, whose term expired on
December 31, 1995, was cancelled and re-advertised for
January 30, 1996. Due to the fact that there was only two
Commissioners in office in January, 1996, no formal meeting
of the Board of Commissioners was held. The election of a
Commissioner was held January 30, 1996, with Judy Thilberg
and Paula Thilberg acting as Inspectors of Election.
Comm~ssioner Adams swore in the Inspectors and opened the
polls at 7:00 P.M. The polls were closed by Commissioner
Sabat at 9:00 P.M. The results of the election were 26
voters registered, 26 ballots counted, 26 votes for Gerard
Goehringer. Gerard Goehringer was declared a Commissioner
for the three year term commencing January 31, 1996 and
expiring December 31, 1998.
On motion of Edward Adams, seconded by Gerard
Goehringer, and carried, the minutes for the November, 1995
meeting were approved as presented, after insertion of bills
paid.

The following appointments for the Mattituck Park
District for the year 1996 were made on motion of Gerard
Goehringer, seconded by Peter Sabat and carried:
Suffolk Times and Traveler-Watchman official
newspapers.

official banking institutions.

Madeline S. Haas, Secretary.
P.C. official attorneys.
Gerry Goehringer thanked all present for the work done
in getting the election together with all the problems with
the weather.
Commissioner Adams explained why and how he went about
cancelling the December meeting and election. He worked
completely on the advice of Abigail A. Wickham, Attorney.
Letter from Suffolk County Water Department was
received in reference to the water at Veterans' Park.

the 1995 budget was made by Gerry Goehringer, seconded by
Edward Adams and carried:

On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Edward
Adams, and carried, the following 1996 salaries were
approved as follows:

Edward Adams presented a letter from William Moore,
,~ttorney, enclosing a check to the Mattituck Park District
in the su~ of $1350.00 for restitution for the malicious
mischief to the fence at Veterans' Park.
The cost of the repairs to the bulkheads at Veterans'
Park and Yacht Club made by Pawlick was $3140.00.
Jim Cox had been examined before trial by the attorney
for Gordon Schlaefer in connection with the sinking of the
boat at Love Lane. Jim said they are going to be in touch
with Bert Walker as he is the one who tied up the boat.
Gerry Goehringer stated that he would like to consider
heiring a person for approximately 12 hours a week in the
summer at a cost of $5.00 per hour from June 1st through
Labor Day for the purpose of taking all call, ie complaints,
keys, permits. Mr. Cushman asked for a complete Job
description for Civil Service to fund this position. Gerry
Goehringer is to prepare a Job description. Until that has
been done, the matter is being held open.
The Environmentalists are using the building for
meeting temporarily. They have to notify Park District in
advance of when their meetings will be held so that there is
no conflict of other meetings.
No further business to come before the meeting, on
motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Edward Adams and
carried, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
