HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-05/02/1996 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on May 2, 1996 at the Park District Office at Mattituck, New York, with Commissioners Adams, Goehringer and Sabat, Treasurer Cushman, Secretary Haas, Labor Crew Chief Cox, and Life Guard Supervisor Droskoski present. Chairman Adams called the meeting to order. On motion of Pete Sabat, seconded by Ed Adams and carried the minutes of the March 7th and April 4th meetings were approved as presented with one correction in the April 4th minutes. Bialeski Landscaping will be fertilizing the Aldrich Lane site rather than David Blados. Notice from Town of Southold that the Aldrich Lane site has been re-assessed from $1500.00 to $1600.00. Secretary Haas to show this to our attorneys for comment. Barbara Droskoski was given the floor and said she thinks she might need a new board for the life guards. Mr. Goehringer gave her the name of a company she could contact who has good prices. Mrs. Droskoski informed the Commissioners that the starting life guard pay is $10.42 per hour. The new criteria for life guards is as follows= Suffolk County Department of Health says that lifeguards who have NOT been tested by the county, may be employed as Stillwater and Pool lifeguards under the following conditions= (a) Possession of a valid certificate from the American Red Cross stating that the candidate has successfully completed the program in LIFEGUARD T~AINING, and (b) Possession of a valid certificate from the American Red Cross for CPR for the Professional Rescuer~ or a valid certificate from the American Heart Association, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care Provider. Mrs. Droskoski pay for the 1996 season will be $2,700.00. Mr. Cushman reported by three new portable phone have been gotten on State Contract. All the District has to pay for is the service of $18.00 per month. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Pete Sabat and carried, permission is granted to Southold Town to give swimming lessons at Vetts Park the last week in June and the first week in July. Secretary instructed to send a letter to Kenneth Reeve so advising him. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Ed Adams and carried, Kevin Litchhult will be the last and fourth gate guard for the 1996 season, starting at $4.75 per hour. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded Pete Sabat and carried, Dennis Cox will be hired as a custodial laborer starting at $5.25 per hour. Ed Adams reported that the floats are in at Love Lane and a cat walk to the west of the ramp has been built. John Cushman reported that the bathrooms have been turned on at the Breakwater and Vet's Park. Motion made by Pete Sabat, seconded by Gerry Goehringer and carried that time cards must be in the office the Monday after the previous work week signed by the employee and by Jim Cox. Sic-Pitch League representatives entered the meeting (Mr. Hudson and Mr. Okun). The men said they were there representing only the men's league as they had not been approached by the women yet. Ed Adams stated to them that things will stay status quo on the Park District side - Lights paid by Park District, Porte-potties paid by the District; and no alcoholic beverages on the site. Ball representatives said they would accept the fertilizing of the Yacht Club field inside the fence but that Tom Domaleski will take care of the mowing and S & L has been notified to turn on the irrigation which the League takes care of. Ed Adams said vendors may be allowed in provided the District is assured that they have all the necessary permits needed to legally sell. Park District needs a schedule of all the dates and times the games will be played so that if any taxpayers request the field, they can be advised when it is available. The Ball representatives stated that their schedule is not officially ruled up as yet, but that no Friday, Saturday or Sunday games will be scheduled. The League is to be very alert as to turning off the lights as soon as possible after the last game and not turning the lights on for the first game until it is necessary to do so. First game is May 20, 1996. Jim Cox was instructed to fertilize the Yacht Club and Little League field at Bay Avenue. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Pete Sabat, and carried, a second bocci court will be built at the Vet's Park at a cost not to exceed $2,000.00. The Treasurer's Report was accepted and bills offered for payment were ordered paid on motion of Pete Sabat, seconded by Ed Adams and carried.
