Chairman Adams reported that Harry Charkow is laid up with a pinched nerve in
his leg. He will not be returning to his position with the Park District.
On motion of Walter Sabat, seconded by Edward Adams and carried, Jim
Anderson is to be hired to fill that position at an hourly wage of $9.00.
Chairman Adams requested Mr. Cox, the Park maintenance supervisor, to have a
sign made up and posted at the Aldrich Lane, Laurel site reading "For Use by Mattituck
Park District Residents Only".
Ms. Lyida Totora, Mr. Wittseheban, Ms. Chris Riveira and Mr. Stanley Sehilder
entered the meeting as representatives of the West MaRituck Beach Association and
Capt. Kidd Estates Association. They wanted an up-date on the possible lease to be made
up with the DEC for the Breakwater Road corner piece belonging to the Mattitauck Park
District.
Mr. Goehringer informed the above people that the Nature Conservancy had
originally been asked if they would be interested in entering a lease for the corner
property with the Mattituck Park District to protect the wildlife and vegetation. The
Nature Conservancy replied that due to a manpower shortage they could not take the job
on. The DEC was recommended.
The West Mattituck Beach Association had a meeting and their general feeling
was that they did not want the DEC involved.
The Capt. Kidd people were in favor.
A general discussion of pros and cons followed. The Commissioners said they
will look into the matter further and talk with the Park District's attorney regarding same.
They will get back to the two associations just as soon as they have anything further to
offer.
Chairman Adams reported that Paul Wilsberg called asking for the electricity to
be left on until November 15th, 1998 at the Aldrich Lane site. Request granted.
Chairman Adams said the Little League field can be shut down.
Mr. Cox said Sea Breeze had been working on the tennis courts at the Bay
Avenue site. They cannot be re-serviced until the cracks are sealed.
The Commissioners discussed'the Scouters Lodge. They suggested trying to get
together with the members of the Mattituck Youth Association to see if an arrangement
for the Lodge can come to a permanent agreement.
The October meeting will be held on October 8~ 1998 rather than October
No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Edward Adams,
seconded by Walter Sabat and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Msdeline S. Haas, Secretary
